Hidden Gems: Meet Katara Baskerville of Mother Mollys LLC/ All Sides of Birth LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katara Baskerville.

Hi Katara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey, and I am the CEO and Founder of All Sides of Birth LLC, where I provide birth, postpartum, and fertility doula services and education. Trained by MaternityWise International, I offer personalized, evidence-based support rooted in informed consent and patient rights. My goal is to help families feel safe, confident, informed, and heard throughout their reproductive journey.

I hold both a B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry from Howard University. My experience as a chemist, lab coordinator, and professor allows me to bring a strong scientific foundation to my doula practice. As an herbalist, I thoughtfully incorporate holistic approaches alongside my STEM background, creating well-rounded care rooted in both tradition and science. I use my understanding of pregnancy, labor, postpartum recovery, lactation, and the body’s natural processes to translate complex information into clear, practical, and empowering guidance. I approach each family with empathy, professionalism, and unwavering presence, offering calm support through every high and low of their journey.

My passion for science and entrepreneurship also extends to my family’s culinary legacy through Mother Molly’s LLC, founded in 2022. Inspired by my great-grandmothers and their love of homemade jams and preserves, I created Mother Molly’s to bring the taste of tradition back to the table.

What began with three flavors has grown into a line of preserves, syrups, and pastries made with simple, fresh, locally sourced ingredients. For me, Mother Molly’s is more than a business—it is a way to honor family, preserve tradition, and create food that feels like home.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Business has not been a smooth road. Becoming an entrepreneur has come with countless learning curves that I was not always prepared to navigate. From developing Mother Molly’s recipes to choosing the right packaging and promotional strategies, much of the process has been shaped by trial and error.

As I worked to grow and scale the business, I also experienced a profound personal loss—the passing of my grandmother. She was deeply connected to the heart and inspiration behind Mother Molly’s, and when I lost her, I felt as though I lost some of my fire and drive with her. Learning to grieve while continuing to build the business became one of the most difficult—and transformative—parts of my journey.

My experience with loss also shaped me in another deeply personal way. As a doula, my first birth experience was a perinatal loss. It opened my eyes to how closely birth and death can exist alongside one another. Initially, I questioned whether I wanted to continue working in the birth space. Over time, however, I realized that being a doula was not simply about supporting easy or uncomplicated deliveries. It was about being present during the long, exhausting, uncertain, and nail-biting moments—the moments when families need someone to remain steady when everything feels overwhelming.

That experience changed me. It made me a better doula, a stronger advocate, and a more compassionate person. It taught me that my role is not to simply celebrate the joyful moments, but to hold space for families through every part of their journey, even when the outcome is not what they hoped for.

Both experiences—the loss of my grandmother and my first experience as a doula—taught me that building a business and serving others require resilience. Sometimes the very moments that challenge us the most become the ones that give our work greater meaning and purpose.

We’ve been impressed with Mother Mollys LLC/ All Sides of Birth LLC , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mother Molly’s LLC

Mother Molly’s LLC was inspired by the grandparents who pass down special skills, family recipes, and the tradition of cooking with a little extra love. I created the brand to honor that legacy and bring those traditions to a new generation.

Our preserves are made with natural, locally sourced ingredients from farmers and producers and packaged with care. We focus on using ingredients consumers can easily recognize. Our signature flavors are Wild Berry and Peach, and we use our preserves in all of our pastries.

What makes me most proud is building a brand rooted in family legacy. I am grateful to create products that bring a sense of love, tradition, and home to every customer. Mother Molly’s offers wholesale products, event favors, and specialty orders.
