Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Bjorndal.
Hi Hannah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I founded La Vie En Rose in 2015. Combining my assortment of skills in the filmmaking and fashion photography world, I dove head-first into wedding photography. The business quickly grew to be a team effort, and since then, I have completely fallen in love with managing and growing my talented team.
Dedicated to finding new ways to delight and go above-and-beyond for clients, I have put most of my focus in recent years on developing new methodology, experimenting with new ideas and training team members to be completely aligned in style, form and approach!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
An exciting but difficult challenge was figuring out how to create a company with a team approach when most photographers are solo-entrepreneurs. On top of that, the COVID era made it more of a common practice to have “associates” (photographers who owned their own businesses, but whom another photographer would hire out for the day to work for their company). A team approach went from being totally unusual to being viewed with suspicion and seen as a lower-quality option.
Everyone on our team works exclusively for La Vie En Rose, and we all approach photography with the same style and mindset, growing together and learning from each other. We’re a tight-knit group who empower each other to be the best we can be.
Figuring out how to communicate how we are different that an “associate” approach and then grow together into the luxury space took a lot of troubleshooting and building trust with vendor partners over several years. I’m pleased to say that we have grown together and developed a reputation for being a team who does things differently in the best way!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a team of luxury wedding photographers serving Washington, DC, Naples, FL, Nashville, TN and destination wedding clients worldwide.
We believe in “CARPE DIEM” as a motto our clients should adopt for their wedding day, and we’re here to help make it happen. We believe that every wedding is completely and totally unique, just like our clients. Every moment of a wedding day is once-in-a-lifetime, and our clients deserve to live in those moments. That’s where we come in.
Our job is to document every second of a client’s wedding day in a way that allows them to experience their wedding day over and over, forever. From chic, epic celebrations in the heart of Washington, DC to intimate destination weddings, we document wedding days carefully, intentionally & with our whole heart.
As former brides ourselves, we know the importance of remembering each and every part of the day. We also know that wedding photos are the best way to remember. So we capture it all – even the moments you don’t get to see yourself.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
So much of life is out of my control, and I’m incredibly grateful for the things I couldn’t have orchestrated myself –
-Wonderful parents who encouraged me to be creative and pursue my dreams.
-Excellent opportunities and being in the “right place at the right time” to meet a few people who were influential in helping me start my business, including an editorial photographer who offered me an internship my senior year of college.
-Starting my business in 2015, at a time when there were so many free resources available to learn how to start a business, and the market wasn’t incredibly saturated with new photographers yet.
I believe that even with all the luck in the world, you have to pay attention and be ready for those moments, and then take a hold of them when they come along.
I am an optimist and opportunist – I see challenges as new opportunities, and always believe there is a solution to every problem. This has allowed me to capitalize on all those “lucky” moments!
