Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Stephanie Bathurst.
Hi Dr. Stephanie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my professional journey with a deep curiosity about what truly sustains love beyond attraction and survival instincts. My own life experiences, including navigating trauma, chronic illness, and relational disconnection, became the foundation for my mission: to teach people how to heal, reconnect, and experience intimacy as an energetic flow rather than a performance or obligation.
I pursued advanced training in marriage and family therapy, clinical sexology, and integrative medicine, blending evidence-based psychology with somatic and holistic healing practices. Over the years, I developed proprietary frameworks such as the Flow™ Relationship Energy Theory and The 8 Forms of Intimacy Model, which have transformed thousands of relationships across the globe.
My path into the field of intimacy and relationship healing began long before I earned my doctorate or opened my private practice—it began with a moment that broke me open. Years ago, while volunteering in an orphanage in Honduras, I witnessed children reach out, desperate to be held, yet conditioned to believe that touch and love were not meant for them. That moment changed everything. I could feel the visceral pain of human disconnection—how unmet needs for affection and belonging shape who we become. I made a promise to dedicate my life to healing that ache in others.
That experience led me to study marriage and family therapy, clinical sexology, and integrative medicine. Over time, I wove together neuroscience, trauma repair, and somatic healing to create what became my signature frameworks: the Flow™ Relationship Energy Theory and The 8 Forms of Intimacy Model. These evidence-based systems teach individuals and couples how to move from survival mode into alignment, trust, and authentic connection.
Through my company, Bathurst Family Therapy, and the Relationship Energy Flow Academy, I’ve guided thousands of couples through transformation—whether in the therapy room, during luxury intimacy retreats for couples, or through educational programs designed to restore relational vitality. My work has been featured on CNN, MSNBC, OWN, Giddy, and Brainz Magazine, but my greatest measure of success remains witnessing partners reclaim safety, passion, and joy in love.
Today, I continue to merge science, spirituality, and sensuality—helping others evolve from survival to soulful connection through both therapy and education.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been anything but a smooth road—and I wouldn’t change a thing. My journey required as much unlearning as it did education. I faced my own battles with trauma, chronic illness, and nervous system dysregulation, all while supporting others through theirs. Managing conditions like Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, POTS, and Raynaud’s taught me firsthand the inseparable link between emotional healing and physical well-being. It pushed me to slow down, listen deeply to my body, and rebuild a relationship with myself before guiding others to do the same.
Another major challenge has been the public—and even professional—miseducation surrounding the legitimacy and importance of sexology. The social stigma attached to sexual wellness has made it far more difficult to reach the people who need this work most. Because insurance does not recognize sex therapy as a reimbursable medical code, I cannot accept insurance for many clients. This often becomes a barrier to quality healthcare that our communities both need and deserve. It’s a systemic issue, and I hope to see this change within the next decade as our nation grows more informed about the vital role of sexual health, intimacy education, and trauma recovery in mental and relational wellness.
Professionally, bridging evidence-based science with conversations around sexuality and energy once placed me at the edge of conventional therapy circles. But I stood firm in my mission—to integrate the body, mind, and soul in the healing of human connection. Every challenge I’ve faced has deepened my empathy, sharpened my vision, and reminded me why this work is so essential.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Bathurst Family Therapy and the Relationship Energy Flow Academy were founded on one guiding truth: intimacy is not just physical—it’s energetic, emotional, and deeply human. My mission is to help individuals and couples repattern trauma, rebuild trust, and restore the natural flow of connection through evidence-based and integrative approaches that unite psychology, sexology, and somatic healing.
I specialize in repairing relational trauma, aligning mismatched libidos, and teaching partners to co-regulate their nervous systems so they can reawaken safety, passion, and ease in their relationship. My proprietary Flow™ Relationship Energy Theory and 8 Forms of Intimacy Model have become foundational tools for helping clients understand how their energy patterns shape attraction, communication, and emotional resilience.
What sets my work apart is the integration of science and soul. Every retreat, session, and educational program is designed to bridge the clinical and the spiritual, the sexual and the sacred. Through our high-end couples retreats, therapeutic intensives, and online programs, we’ve helped thousands of partners move from disconnection to deep emotional and erotic alignment—with a 97% success rate in restoring intimacy and relational harmony.
I’m incredibly proud to have earned seven Awards of Excellence over the last four years—recognition that reflects how deeply I value being the best possible provider for my clients. Being acknowledged for my purpose always feels lovely, but the greatest validation comes from the people I serve. Since opening my practice in 2014, more than 80% of my clients have come through personal referrals. That means the work we do together is so impactful that clients trust me enough to send the people they love most in this world. That is the true gift.
Beyond private services, we’re dedicated to community outreach and accessibility. We offer free therapeutic education and guidance across our social media channels to make quality information available to those who may not have access or financial means for direct care. In partnership with Ola Aina Farms, LLC in Waialua, Hawai‘i, we also develop programs and community experiences that support holistic mental health—addressing anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, PMDD, and more through integrative mind-body practices and connection with nature.
What I’m most proud of is that this brand stands for love in its most complete form—where science meets spirit, healing meets play, and every human is reminded that they are worthy of thriving connection.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Baltimore is its diversity—in every sense of the word. This city holds a unique blend of cultures, languages, and lived experiences that give it a heartbeat unlike anywhere else. The authenticity of its people and the creative pulse that runs through its neighborhoods make it a powerful place for healing and human connection. There’s a raw honesty here that reminds me why I do what I do: to help people feel seen, understood, and accepted exactly as they are.
What I like least isn’t about the people—it’s about the systems. Like many cities, Baltimore still struggles with inequities in access to quality mental health and sexual health care. These disparities often mirror the broader social stigmas and educational gaps that keep people from seeking the support they deserve. But even that challenge fuels my purpose. I see a community that is ready for change, and I’m grateful to play even a small role in that evolution—helping our city grow in compassion, awareness, and connection.
