Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jasmine “Dr. J” Blunt, DNP, FNP-BC, and PMHNP-BC
Hi Dr. J, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into aesthetics began with a deep passion for helping people feel confident and comfortable in their own skin. As a dual-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), my career initially focused on aesthetics and mental health, with advanced clinical experience in some of the most demanding fields. After earning my Doctor of Nursing Practice from Johns Hopkins University, I worked in roles that emphasized the intersection of medicine and holistic well-being.
I founded Gloss Medical Aesthetics & Laser to combine my medical expertise with my passion for beauty and self-care. I wanted to create a space where science and aesthetics meet—a place where clients could trust in the safety and efficacy of their treatments while also feeling pampered and empowered. What started as a small vision has blossomed into a thriving practice in Baltimore, MD.
Gloss Medical Aesthetics & Laser specializes in aesthetics, advanced anti-aging therapies, and cutting-edge laser treatments. My focus has always been on innovation, education, and delivering exceptional client care. From building a loyal clientele to embracing the latest advancements in the field, every step of this journey has been fueled by a desire to make a meaningful difference in how people see themselves and their potential.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to establishing Gloss Medical Aesthetics & Laser has been anything but smooth, but each challenge has been an opportunity for growth and resilience. Starting a business in the competitive world of aesthetics requires not only a deep knowledge of medicine but also a strong understanding of entrepreneurship, branding, and client care.
One of the biggest hurdles was navigating the complexities of transitioning from a healthcare provider to a business owner. While my medical training prepared me to deliver exceptional care, running a business required mastering everything from financial management to marketing strategies. Finding the right balance between the clinical and operational sides of the business took time and persistence.
Another challenge has been educating the public about the safety and science behind the treatments we offer. There’s a lot of misinformation about aesthetics, and I’ve worked hard to dispel myths and build trust with clients through transparency and evidence-based care.
Additionally, like many small business owners, I faced financial and logistical struggles, especially during the early stages. From managing startup costs to ensuring I had the latest technology, every decision was a balancing act.
Despite these obstacles, I’ve always remained committed to my vision. The challenges taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of surrounding myself with a supportive and skilled team. Every bump in the road has reinforced my passion for helping clients look and feel their best, making the journey well worth it.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Finding a mentor and building a strong network can be transformative, especially in industries like aesthetics, where innovation and connection play vital roles. My advice is to start by identifying people whose values, skills, and success stories resonate with you. A mentor doesn’t necessarily need to be in your exact field, but they should inspire you and challenge you to grow.
For me, mentorship has often come from seeking out experts in both medicine and business. I’ve found that joining professional organizations, attending conferences, and participating in workshops has been instrumental in meeting people who share similar goals. These settings allow for organic conversations and opportunities to learn from others’ experiences.
One piece of advice that has worked well for me is to approach networking with a mindset of curiosity and reciprocity. Instead of focusing solely on what you can gain, think about what you can offer. Authentic relationships are built when there’s mutual benefit, whether it’s sharing resources, advice, or support.
Social media has also been a powerful tool for networking. Platforms like Instagram have allowed me to connect with other medical professionals, entrepreneurs, and even clients who align with my mission. Don’t underestimate the value of reaching out to someone you admire with a genuine compliment or question about their work—you never know where a simple conversation might lead.
Finally, I’d say don’t be afraid to ask for help or guidance. Mentorship often begins with taking the initiative to reach out and express your admiration for someone’s work. Most people are happy to share their knowledge and experiences if approached with sincerity.
Networking is about building relationships over time. Be patient, stay consistent, and always look for opportunities to both learn and give back.
