Denise, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
“Meet in the Wild Travel” wasn’t always about travel. It began with Cristina and me, back in grade school, trying to create a dating app. However, our research revealed a significant problem: post-COVID dating app fatigue. People were tired of endless swiping and superficial connections.
The real inspiration came later. Cristina, now a travel agent, was booking a client’s vacation when she realized she longed to travel to Europe but lacked a travel companion. This sparked an idea: group travel was booming, but no one was combining it with dating.
We conducted thorough market research and discovered a gap. Many people in their late 20s to early 40s have disposable income and a desire to travel. They often travel solo, potentially meeting someone they connect with, only to discover they live far apart. We asked: why not create travel experiences that connect geographically compatible people?
The concept of “Meet in the Wild Travel” emerged. We would organize group trips for singles within driving distance of each other, allowing them to connect while exploring new destinations. This would offer the opportunity to build genuine relationships beyond the vacation.
To bring this vision to life, we combined our skills. Cristina got my experience as a travel agent, while I contributed her expertise in event planning. Together, we launched “Meet in the Wild Travel,” the first company to offer group travel, matchmaking, and dating services.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our primary challenge is expanding our reach. While we’ve experienced viral moments within our Facebook group and appreciate the organic growth, we’re still in the crucial phase of building market awareness as a young, one-year-old company.
