Hidden Gems: Meet Daryll Wharton of Daryll Inspires

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daryll Wharton.

Hi Daryll, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I always had struggles with weight. I started to gain at the age of 2. My mother took me to Weight Watchers at the age of 7. I suffered years of self-emotional abuse. I was in the 300s in middle school and the 400s in high school. Finally, at the age of 28, weighing 674 pounds, I had weight loss surgery. I had a 200-pound weight loss success after having the surgery, but I didn’t lose another pound for 10 years. It wasn’t until I started looking within and using affirmations that I was then able to release not just more physical weight but the weight of self-hate, low self-esteem, worrying about what others thought, etc. Now I have the pleasure of using my journey to help others to become the highest version of themselves.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I had many complications with having weight loss surgery and was in and out of the hospital several times. The arthritis in my knees got worse. I almost died from having skin removal surgery. I also realized that I didn’t want to be “skinny.” I just wanted to be happy and well. The struggle with how I perceived myself was a challenge. Even though I had lost over 400 pounds, I still had negative feelings toward myself and my body. Changing that was hard work.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Daryll Inspires?
I started Daryll Inspires because I received many messages saying my story inspired others. My business started with me teaching Hot Hula fitness, and I noticed that I was not just teaching exercise but also helping to improve confidence and self-esteem. I shared my journey of not only my weight loss, but my journey of inner work and going plant-based. I got certified as a Life and Health Coach. I used my Social Work, Psychology, and Special Education degrees to create a coaching program that helps women feel amazing during their weight loss journey. What sets my coaching business apart from others is that I teach effective techniques, strategies, and hacks that address not only the physical aspect of weight loss but the emotional side of it as well, which can be included in daily life activities, making it easier to transform one’s mindset. I’m most proud that several of my clients lose weight and embark on things they would have never tried, such as acting, starting a business, etc. My clients learn how to improve and maintain their wellness instead of just trying to release weight. I offer group and private coaching, Cute Curvy Confident products, my self-help book, journals, and workbooks to help with clients’ transformation. What I love to do most in my business is motivational speaking. My topics include extreme weight loss, motivating students with special needs, confidence training for women and girls, vision boards, mindset shift, and much more.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Daryll Inspires is a business that addresses the entire person. Clients learn that they are more than a number on a scale, their disability, or whatever they “think” is “wrong” with them. I use my business to give back to the world because when people feel good about themselves, they project that positive energy onto others, making the world a better place.
