Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Ross.
Danny, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have spent my whole life in music and I have spent a lifetime learning how records are actually made. My goal is to deliver the sound of freedom to the world. And since Jazz is freedom, I want to share my love of freedom with the world, through music.
Danny has a BS in Applied Physics from Xavier University, and a masters and doctorate in Electrical Engineering (Electromagnetics) from the University of Michigan. By day, he is an aerospace executive, inventor, and system architect. He is involved with sensors for aircraft and aircraft survivability and design. Well-known internationally, his sensor systems and aircraft are in use all over the world on important missions every day. He is passionate about helping his customers in the most dangerous places in the world to accomplish their missions and survive.
He studied piano with may artists including Peggy Stern in Manhattan we he learned the skill of playing any song in any key! He was trained in Washington DC by Louis Scherr on how to play like Bill Evans and how to think like an arranger. He mastered a variety of tone techniques under the tutelage of Bill Harris. Together they studied the piano technique of Arthur Rubenstein to achieve the desired touch and tone on the piano. Danny also learned from Bill Harris, to improvise the way that Chopin and Bach and Beethoven actually did. He has also studied jazz piano with Robert Redd.
Danny is highly sought after and plays with numerous bands in Washington, DC, a “ringer” who sits in with many local jazz groups. He also has his own jazz acts and the original songs of his Jazz Fusion group (DC-Choppah) are heard on WAMU. Events for his acts can be found at dc-choppah.com
Turning the love of music into a business was always my goal and this became a reality in 2024 when I found the perfect property (with the help of Christine, a fighter pilot colleague, turned realtor!) Danny Ross Music LLC was born in 2024 and is going strong. Danny Ross Music is a full recording studio and rehearsal space, with multiple rooms for modern music production. Danny Ross Music promotes the music of select artists as a modern record label.
Danny’s goal is to make the musicians smile! Then the magic happens. And at Danny Ross Music, we can capture that so the world can feel the love between musicians.
Music is love. Love must be shared with the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Transforming a residential property into a music company and recording studio took a long time. One challenge was to engage an acoustician who could analyze the acoustic properties and develop the right approach to alter the spaces.
Another challenge was running wiring all throughout the building to support the 4 recording rooms.
Once set up we also are overwhelmed by the number of great musicians and acts that wish to use the facility. We have decided to limit the acts we support to a select number as a modern record label.

We are known for specializing in music production, song writing, and recording, and artist support for Jazz in the area.
What sets us a apart is that Danny Ross Music LLC has the facilities to host large ensembles for rehearsals, and recording. We are planning a full Big Band record production this year.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Music is more and more in demand in our area. There is a critical need for talent. But music is a very difficult endeavor. Musicians need more support than ever! The support they need includes networking, song writing, recording, song production, video production, and guidance. While modern technology appears to make this more accessible, this technology is geared to amateurs and does not make the quality needed in the industry. Meanwhile professional studios continue to close. A single music company that can write songs for artists, create scores, hire musicians, rehearse, record and produce quality music will be more and more in demand.
