Hidden Gems: Meet Danny Amaya of Onoria Consulting Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Amaya.

Hi Danny , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in El Salvador. My mother had to emigrate to the United States in the 1980s because of a civil war. I arrived in the United States at age 13 in 1992, in the state of Texas—a drastic change compared to El Salvador. I always dreamed of being able to help my mother, since she was a single mother with two children, and my older brother couldn’t work due to a medical problem. When I turned 16, we moved to the state of Maryland, and I got my first job in a shoe store. I graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in 1998.

Eventually, I went to Montgomery College and studied business. In my second year, I took a break because I had just turned 30 and wanted to open my company, Onoria Consulting Services, in the heart of Langley Park. I saw a need to provide fair and accessible services to the Latino community, such as tax preparation, notary services, and translations.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
At first it was difficult because I had no clients and nobody knew me, but since I had a lot of free time I visited soccer tournaments, church events, and Latin festivals where I had the opportunity to meet people and talk about my business. By having that contact with people, I was able to receive many referrals and little by little my clientele grew.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Onoria Consulting Services ?
One of the main reasons for starting the company, which continues to this day, is to provide a quality service at a fair price. Thanks to the profits I’ve been able to make over the years, in September 2015 I registered the non-profit organization “Be Happy,” which focuses on helping children in Latin America with projects in the following countries: El Salvador, Colombia, Honduras, Guatemala, Peru, Venezuela, and Mexico. Recently, a feeding center for the elderly and a rescue center for homeless dogs were inaugurated.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
To treat all people with respect, so they don’t feel like just another number, but rather part of this great family
