Hidden Gems: Meet Chayla C. Jackson of Legacy Legal & Consulting Firm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chayla C. Jackson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am living in an answered prayer. My dream as a child was to be a lawyer. I didn’t know how that would happen or where the money would come from. I prayed to God for a scholarship to Georgetown Law and He answered my prayer with not one but two scholarships covering close to the full amount of tuition.

I started law school with the plan to be a public defender. But when I graduated law school, it wasn’t exactly what my heart wanted to do. Fast forward a few years to 2020 and we are in the beginning of the pandemic. I had an idea to write a book. Women were the fastest-growing population of entrepreneurs and with the pandemic, others were starting businesses too. There was one thing I knew and that was a good portion of them did not have adequate access to an attorney or know the legal side of business. With that knowledge, I positioned myself to use my law degree and teaching experience to help small business owners launch, grow, and scale legally protected businesses.

So, I wrote a book to educate them, Build A Legit Business, covering the legal side of business and costly mistakes to avoid. That naturally grew into courses and a membership for business owners all over the U.S. As they revealed other problems, I created legal solutions. For example, I offer contract templates that won’t break the bank and includes crucial provisions other online contracts are missing along with key reminders for how to properly use and sign contracts. Education is important, but DIY legal can only take you so far.

My law firm became the next step of faith for me believing the word God gave me about my dream to have my own law firm. In my firm, I’m able to work one-on-one with clients and help them navigate the complexities of legal protection from inception to succession and wealth planning.

I’m still just getting started but I’m excited to serve small business owners at different levels in their business as I grow in my own businesses.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think any path of entrepreneurship is a smooth road or life in general.

I, like most, started a business without any real understanding of what it truly means to run a business. From mindset to marketing to bookkeeping, the learning curve definitely impacted my bottom line in my business.

When I started, I loved coming up with ideas for courses to launch, and I still do, however, launching without a clear marketing plan left me personally covering the expenses for my business and trying to climb out from under a mountain of debt. I didn’t understand the numbers or how to make effective decisions based on the numbers in my business.

The journey of becoming a CEO and shifting seamlessly between creator to CEO has eased the burden of feeling the pressure to hustle so I can freely create to serve and profit. There’s still room to grow but now I can identify where I need to grow in my business compared to when I first started just throwing anything out to see what would stick.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Legacy Legal & Consulting Firm is a business consulting and law firm with the mission to help our clients protect their brand, build a legacy, and secure their wealth. We specialize in business start-ups, contracts, employment law, and general counsel services. We are known for educating our clients on the laws that affect them so they are legally savvy as they do business.

What sets us apart from other law firms is our commitment to our client’s vision for their business, our holistic approach to lawyering, our flat fee and predictable legal costs, and making legal advice for your business accessible by offering consultations for as low as $99.

We know you’re growing your business, so if we think you can do it yourself, we do not nickel and dime our clients. Even though our clients come to us for one legal issue, we do our due diligence to identify any potential legal problems and we adjust our legal strategy to protect your business now and, in the future, according to your vision.

I am most proud brand-wise of our growth with our clients and the quality of service we provide. As our clients’ businesses grow, their legal needs do as well, and we grow to journey with them. Excellence is our standard, and we make sure our clients are protected and questions answered.

We offer a free discovery call for those seeking legal services and flat rate fees so the cost never goes up no matter how long it takes us.

For those who can’t quite afford legal services, I have another business that offers free and paid courses called Build A Legit Biz™. It’s DIY legal with an attorney. I’m proud of that business because a student can take a course to successfully register their business in any state while avoiding trademark infringement in choosing their business name. That’s a small investment upfront that saves them thousands of dollars years from now in a rebrand and lawsuit. There I offer a legal membership and contract templates with tutorials that give business owners peace of mind and confidence as they build their brand.
