Hi Brittany, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Life has a way of throwing you curveballs when you least expect it. I found myself in one of the hardest seasons of my life when my daughter was born prematurely and spent a month in the NICU. I was bouncing between hospital visits, caring for my three boys, and watching my marriage fall apart—all while fighting through postpartum depression. I’ll never forget the moment I looked in the mirror and didn’t recognize the woman staring back at me. It was terrifying. That’s when I knew something had to change. I started my self-love journey, and one of the first things I did was create a self-love challenge, which I posted on Instagram to hold myself accountable. I had no idea how much it would resonate with other women. As I continued the challenge, more and more women began to join in.
The monthly self love challenge not only helped me love myself again but also inspired me to create a self-love journal. Journaling became my lifeline in my darkest times. Through the confusion and loneliness, it helped me sort through my feelings and reconnect with who I really am. What started as a personal journey to rediscover myself after motherhood and divorce has grown into a movement of over 30,000 mothers loving themselves across social media platforms. Now, I host quarterly events to help mothers build community and remind them that they are never alone on this journey of motherhood.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely not been a smooth road. I’ve faced a lot of challenges along the way. One of the biggest struggles was balancing everything—being a mom of four, dealing with postpartum depression, navigating a divorce, and trying to take care of myself in the middle of it all. There were days when I felt like I was drowning, trying to manage my mental health while keeping things together for my kids.
Financial challenges also came up, especially after my divorce. I had to figure out how to support my family while juggling so many other responsibilities as a single parent and Baltimore City Public Schools teacher. Emotionally, I was healing from the trauma I had experienced in my marriage and mentally figuring out how to navigate it all.
Even on social media, it wasn’t always easy. Growing my community took time and consistency. There were moments of doubt and imposter syndrome, especially when my content didn’t get the engagement I had hoped for. I remember crying so many times wanting to give up but my village helped keep me grounded and reminded me that this journey was bigger than likes and follows. It was about real connection and impact.
Each struggle has shaped me and fueled my mission to help other women through their own challenges.
As you know, we’re big fans of Black Muva Convos. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business is all about empowering and uplifting mothers—especially Black mothers—who often feel overwhelmed by the pressure to be everything to everyone. Through my platform, I focus on self-love, self-care, and creating a supportive community for moms who are learning to prioritize themselves. We offer journals, self-love challenges, quarterly events, and workshops that encourage women to rediscover themselves and find joy outside of motherhood.
What sets me apart is that I’ve lived this journey. I know what it feels like to lose yourself in motherhood, to go through divorce, and to feel disconnected from who you are. I took that experience and turned it into a movement that now helps over 30,000 women across social media platforms. My brand is rooted in authenticity, vulnerability, and real stories, and that’s what makes it different.
I’m most proud of how much we’ve grown and how deeply we’ve impacted the lives of mothers. Seeing women come together at our events, connect with one another, and leave feeling lighter and more empowered is everything to me. Our events are not just about self-care—they’re about creating lifelong sisterhoods and reminding each other that we’re not alone in this journey.
In addition to the events and products, I’m incredibly proud of the deep connections I’ve made on social media. The constant messages I receive from mothers telling me how much they’ve been inspired, how their confidence has grown, and how they’re starting to love themselves more is the most rewarding part of this journey. Those messages remind me that what I’m doing has real impact. It’s like Maya Angelou said, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” That’s the heart of my brand—helping women feel seen, valued, and capable of loving themselves.
Every story shared, every mother who begins her own self-love journey because of something I posted, fuels my passion even more. This movement is more than just a brand—it’s a space where women can rediscover themselves, grow in confidence, and know they’re not alone.
I want readers to know that my brand is here to remind them that it’s okay to choose themselves. Whether it’s through our self-love journals, attending one of our community-building events, or simply joining the conversation on all social media platforms, my mission is to help women love on themselves without guilt. Our offerings are designed to be accessible and relatable—things that women can incorporate into their daily lives as they grow and heal.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
On a personal level, my happiness comes from watching my kids’ individual personalities grow. I love having dance parties, going to their sporting events, making reels with my daughter, traveling, and taking care of myself. Whether it’s journaling, cooking for my family, or even just laughing with friends, those little moments of connection and self-care keep me grounded and joyful.
Being amongst nature, watching sunsets, and creating floral arrangements —especially sunflowers also brings me a deep sense of happiness. There’s just something about the beauty of nature that makes my heart smile. It’s awe-inspiring to see how everything in nature is so perfectly balanced and beautiful in its own way. Whether it’s the colors of the sky during a sunset or the way flowers come together in a simple arrangement, nature reminds me to slow down, appreciate the moment, and find beauty in the small things. It’s a source of peace and inspiration for me.
Seeing women, especially mothers, reclaim their power and confidence. Watching someone who felt lost or overwhelmed begin to love themselves again, prioritize their needs, and find joy in their lives brings me so much fulfillment. It reminds me of my own journey and how transformative self-love can be.
Connecting and engaging with the Black Muva Convos community and receiving questions about motherhood and self care gives me a sense of purpose. Knowing that I’ve been able to inspire someone or give them the tools to rediscover themselves makes every challenge worth it because I know how it feels to lose yourself in motherhood.
This is not something I’m doing just for the sake of it—I’m still on my own self-love journey. It’s comforting to know that the energy and love I pour into this community are reciprocated. The beauty of this space is that we uplift one another. It’s not just me inspiring them; they’re inspiring me too. It’s a powerful exchange of love and support that makes this journey so much more meaningful.
