Hidden Gems: Meet Brian Anderson of BNB Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Anderson.

Hi Brian, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
BNB Services started with me taking on different odd jobs and handyman work. I’ve always been good with my hands and comfortable figuring things out, so in the beginning I was doing a little bit of everything.

Over time, though, I realized how unpredictable some handyman jobs could be. Something that sounds simple, like changing a faucet, could turn into an unexpected trip to the hardware store because of a broken shut-off valve or another issue you don’t discover until you start the job. That takes extra time and can easily affect the rest of the day and your ability to stay consistent with scheduling.

As I continued working, I noticed that TV mounting was one of the services people consistently contacted me for. I started thinking about how I could make that service more efficient and provide a better experience for the customer. With TV mounting, I could learn the average time needed for different installations, carry most of the equipment and materials I might need with me, and eliminate a lot of unnecessary store runs.

Once I decided to focus more heavily on TVs, I didn’t want BNB Services to be a company that simply “HANGS” televisions on the wall. I wanted to be able to provide everything related to the installation — mounting, different mount options, clean wire concealment, soundbars, LED lighting, smart-TV setup, and helping customers create a finished look in their space.

As I worked with more customers, I also noticed that while I was mounting their TVs, they would often ask if I could help with other things around the home, like hanging pictures and artwork, installing blinds and curtains, mounting shelves, and similar projects. That showed me there was an opportunity to expand beyond TV mounting into more of a home installation service, while still keeping TV mounting as one of the core parts of the business.

That evolution helped me turn BNB from general handyman work into a more focused home installation business and brand. As I’ve grown, I’ve continued learning not only the technical side of the work, but also the business side — customer service, branding, marketing, scheduling, pricing, and creating a consistent experience for customers.

Today, I’m still building and evolving BNB Services. What started with me taking on different odd jobs has developed into something much more focused. My goal is to continue growing the company, expanding the services we offer, and becoming a trusted name for TV mounting and home installation services throughout the Baltimore area and beyond.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges early on was learning that being good at the work and running a successful business are two different things. When I first started, I was taking almost any type of handyman job that came my way. That helped me gain experience, but it also made scheduling, pricing, and planning unpredictable.

As I became more focused on TV mounting and home installation services, a different set of challenges came with that. I had to learn how to consistently attract customers, market the business, figure out what my work was actually worth, and compete in a market where there will always be someone willing to do the job cheaper. I learned that I didn’t want to compete only on price. I wanted customers to choose BNB because of the quality of the installation, professionalism, convenience, and the overall experience.

Another challenge has been wearing so many hats. When you’re building a small business, you’re not just the installer. You’re also answering calls and messages, scheduling appointments, buying materials, handling customer service, marketing, creating content, managing expenses, and thinking about how to grow the business all while still doing the actual work.

There have also been times when business was slower than I wanted it to be, and those periods force you to question whether you’re making the right decisions. But they’ve also pushed me to become better at marketing, improve my branding, add services, and think more strategically instead of depending on the next customer to simply show up.

I’m still learning. I don’t think building a business ever really reaches a point where there are no challenges. The difference now is that I look at those challenges differently. Most of the things that were frustrating in the beginning have helped me figure out what kind of company I want BNB Services to become.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
BNB Services is a Baltimore-based home installation company specializing in TV mounting and the finishing touches that help make a space feel complete. TV mounting is at the core of what we do, but our services also include wire concealment, soundbar installation, LED lighting, smart-TV setup, electric fireplace installations, picture and artwork hanging, shelves, curtain rods, blinds, and other home installation projects.

One thing I want people to understand about BNB is that we don’t look at TV mounting as simply putting a television on the wall. Placement, height, appearance, wire management, and how everything fits into the room all matter. I want the finished installation to look like it belongs in the space, not like someone just came in and hung a TV.

I also try to make the process as convenient as possible for the customer. Many people know they want their TV mounted but may not know what type of mount they need, what to do with the wires, or what additional options are available. Being able to provide different mounting options and help customers figure out the complete setup allows us to provide more of a one-stop experience.

What sets BNB apart to me is the attention to the overall result. Sometimes a customer originally calls for one TV, and while I’m there we start talking about a soundbar, artwork, curtains, shelves, or another project they’ve been wanting to complete. I enjoy being able to help bring those different pieces together.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how BNB has continued to evolve. I’ve worked to make the company feel more professional and recognizable while still keeping the personal service that comes with working with a local business. I want customers to feel comfortable recommending us to their family or friends because they know the quality of work and experience they received.

Ultimately, I want people to know that BNB Services is about more than mounting TVs. We help customers take ideas they have for their homes and turn them into finished spaces. As the company continues to grow, my goal is to expand that experience throughout Baltimore and the surrounding DMV area while maintaining the quality and attention to detail that the brand was built on.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I would say one of the most important qualities to my success has been being resourceful and willing to figure things out. In this type of work, every home and every installation can be a little different. You can prepare as much as possible, but sometimes you run into something you weren’t expecting, and you have to be able to slow down, think through the problem, and find the best solution instead of immediately saying something can’t be done.

That same mindset applies to the business side. I’m still learning every day. I don’t know everything about running a business, marketing, pricing, branding, or even every situation I may come across on a job. But I’ve become comfortable with the fact that growth comes from continuing to learn, paying attention to what works, recognizing what doesn’t, and being willing to make adjustments.

I think one of my strengths is that I’m not afraid to admit when I need to learn something. I’ll research it, ask questions, practice, and figure out how to improve. A lot of BNB Services has been built that way learning from experience and getting better over time.

I still have a lot of goals for the business and a lot more I want to learn. I don’t look at where I am today as the finished product. I look at it as part of the process of continuing to grow both personally and professionally.
