Today we’d like to introduce you to Beck Stavely.
Hi Beck, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story’s been anything but linear, but the common thread has always been creativity, connection, and helping people feel a little more like themselves. Over the years, I’ve done a lot of things, worked in marketing, painted murals, photographed many brands, coached creative business owners, practiced Reiki, led sound baths. Honestly, I follow where curiosity leads, and I’ve always been drawn to the places where creativity and healing overlap.
I shifted into coaching a few years ago because I kept seeing the same thing over and over. So many talented, creative people weren’t stuck because they lacked ideas or skills, they were stuck because of mindset blocks, burnout, or self-doubt. I wanted to offer a space where we could talk about both strategy and self-belief, marketing and energy work, art and intuition. It’s coaching that meets you where you’re at and where you want to go, not where you think you should be.
That work eventually sparked something bigger in me, and that’s how Moonshadow Collective came to life. We recently opened this creative space in downtown Sykesville where people come to make art, take workshops, try something new, or just slow down for a bit. We host everything from kids’ art classes to sound baths to pop-up markets. It’s playful, welcoming, and built on the idea that creativity doesn’t have to be intimidating or perfect, it’s meant to feel good.
Whether it’s coaching, painting, or running Moonshadow, at the heart of everything I do is this belief: creativity, healing, and community all belong together. They’re different sides of the same coin, and when we give ourselves permission to lean into them, really cool things happen.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. For years, I kept feeling this pull to open a physical space. I wanted a creative, welcoming spot where people could gather, make things, and feel connected. But self-doubt kept popping up, and life had other plans.
The pandemic hit, and like everyone else, I had to press pause on a lot of ideas. I shifted to virtual coaching, grew, birthed, and raised two tiny humans, and somewhere in there realized how much I missed having a sense of community. I wanted to create the kind of place I would want to spend time in myself.
The biggest hurdles were finding the right location and the investment capital. For a while, it felt impossible. Then a space on Main Street opened up and Project Restore 2.0 helped fund the renovations. Suddenly, the thing that felt so far off became real.
It’s been a winding path, but in the end, it all coming together in exactly the way it was supposed to.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Moonshadow Collective?
Moonshadow Collective is a creative space in downtown Sykesville where art, community, and wellness come together. We offer workshops, classes, and events for all ages, everything from watercolor and beading to sound baths and meditations. We’re a little artsy, a little woo, and a whole lot about connection.
What really sets us apart is the vibe. It’s welcoming, playful, and intentionally non-intimidating. You don’t have to be “good” at art to come here. You just have to be curious, open, and willing to try something new. We create space for both serious artists and total beginners, and we’re all about encouraging creativity as a form of self-care, joy, and community building.
We’re proud to be part of the movement to bring more creativity and connection into people’s everyday lives. Whether it’s through a kids’ workshop, a sound bath, or just picking up a small gift or craft kit from our shop, we want people to leave feeling a little lighter and a little more inspired than when they walked in.
At the heart of it, Moonshadow isn’t just about what we do, it’s about how it feels to be here. That’s what we hope people remember most.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is creating space for curiosity. I want people to feel safe and inspired to follow those little whispers, the ones that say “try this” or “what if you could?” Whether it’s picking up a paintbrush for the first time in years, attending a sound bath, or joining a new creative workshop, I want people to feel encouraged to explore.
It’s also really important to me that Moonshadow is a space where people can connect, both with each other and with their own creativity. In a world that moves fast and often feels disconnected, having a place to slow down, make something with your hands, or simply share space with others feels more important than ever.
