Hidden Gems: Meet Ashlee Clanton of The Tooth Fairy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlee Clanton.

Hi Ashlee, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As a young girl, I lived in a house of chaos. Although I made it through the storm, the early stages on this road were tough. But this did not change my motivation to become the best version of myself. It all started when I was 15, working in my sister’s spa during that time, and she inspired me to start my own business. At first, I was scared since starting a business is a big decision and commitment. Once I started, I was on a roll and was changing lives one smile at a time. Seeing my clients gain the confidence they never had just from me whitening their teeth made me feel something. I knew that I could be able to change way more lives. This led me to apply to college in the fall to become a dentist. Over the past two years, I have been perfecting t my craft while promoting my work on TikTok. Here I am, with a decent following and a successful black-owned business at 18.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning a business is far from a smooth road, but it is not impossible to cross. There are days when I may get discouraged or feel like I’m not doing good enough, which is fine. I know that every day will not be perfect. There may be days when I have no clients or am fully booked. When I get discouraged and think about giving up, I think about the places and opportunities my business could take me. I learned over time that you should not compare your progress to others; everyone has their path and pace that they must go on.

Another important thing is mental health days. When it comes to following on social media, you sometimes feel the pressure of having to post every day, which is very time-consuming and can take a toll on mental health. When this happens, I take a step back and give myself a break.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The Tooth Fairy MD is a black-owned business specializing in cosmetic teeth and beauty services; these services include Cosmetic Teeth Whitening, Tooth Gems, and Eyebrow Threading, with many more coming soon. The tooth fairy is known for her perfect teeth whitening transformations and professionalism. I am most proud of the constant progression and improvement in my work. I am also most proud of the lives I have changed by offering my services. I want readers to know that anyone can receive services from me no matter how your smile may look, how yellow your teeth are, what gender you are, and what you may look like.

Do you have any advice for those just starting?
My main advice for someone starting their own business is to go for it. Don’t think because there are thousands of others out there providing the same service; you will not get clients because that is not true. People will come to you because they see the fantastic work you do. Something I wish I knew when starting my business is that when you have a business, you are always working, and it is always working to be done.
