Hidden Gems: Meet AK Conover of Le Regime

Today we’d like to introduce you to AK Conover.

Hi AK, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story is just a story of determination and stubbornness. My origins start as just a kid from Newark, NJ with a vision. In the halls of Weequahic High School and having friends who rap and being inspired by Roc a fella records, G-Unit, Dipset ect., at 15 16 years old I always knew it could be done. I wrote out a plan had each of my homies delegated to certain aspects of the business whether it be the music part, DJing, and merch. It never fully came together, but I always felt I needed a crew. I started to go away from that idea of needing a crew seeing my father being an entrepreneur from photography, security and just making things happen, even my mother would be candy from Costco and sell it at her job since they didn’t have a vending machine grind and hard work is just in my being from both parents. Fast forward to the summer after graduating high school my father, some how some way got a hold of some negro league baseball t-shirts. It was a good 20-30 tees. He gave them to me and told me to sell them. I tried to sell them to people my age they weren’t going for it, this ultimately taught me about marketing and audience. I sold one to a near by pastor and it started making sense. That was my first sell ever like this and realized I don’t know who half these players are but he’s older his generation does. And from there it all started falling into place. I already believed in myself if I can think it I can create it so mix that with the marketing and I can do anything. Because life happens things started to slow down until I watched Nipsey Hussle’s “Hussle In The House” video and said the simple design on his shirts was the same idea I had. That ultimately got me back on track and after learning more about fashion and design doing t-shirts here and there ultimately in 2019 Le Regime was officially started as a clothing brand.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I lost my father back in 2013 that was a challenge yet motivation because I know if he was still here we’d be doing this together. When in tough spots I always say to myself WWDD, What Would Dad Do. Besides that the normal entrepreneur challenges of putting something out and it may not catch until sometimes a year later. Just have to stay focus and believe in yourself even in times it feels like you’re alone. I just stay confident in myself in knowing nothing I make is corny. It may not be for one audience but it’s definitely for another audience.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m a very easy person to get in contact with. Email, Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook. I’m open to collaborating and working with anyone as long as it makes moral and financial sense.
