Today we’d like to introduce you to Addie Conte.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I fell into this industry by accident. I was offered a job on a whim by a local drapery workroom in 2012. Being a stay-at-home mom, my first instinct was to decline. I didn’t think I had the time to commit, I had no experience… at all, my twin 5-year-old daughters were in preschool only two days a week and my 7- and 10-year-old sons were in elementary school.
The company who offered me the opportunity was wonderful and offered to be flexible, so I only committed to work when I could until June when the kids were out of school for the summer. Well, that experience sparked my love of making beautiful things. Having an unfinished basement, I began planning my own new workroom so I could work from home when and still be available to my family. In 2014 I found another workroom that was going out of business, and I was able to acquire all of their equipment and ta-da…Addie Designs was born. That was Eight years ago, now, with the support of my husband: Joey, and kids: Joey, Jr., Anthony, Annabella, and Stella, Addie Designs has grown to be a four-employee company, Janice, Jill, Jenn and myself. We design and fabricate for our own clients, but we love to help other designers breathe life into their visions as well. I am so lucky to work with the best people!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge is finding balance. Until I hired help a year ago, there were times that I had to work 36 hours straight to meet deadlines. I felt like I wasn’t giving anyone enough. Now with a team doing everything I was doing on my own for way too long I feel like the company can grow and I can spend a little more time with my family and get some sleep!
Our next challenge, because we are growing, is transitioning from a home-based business to finding our perfect new space. We’re hoping to make this happen within the next year.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
