Exploring Life & Business with Trina Trotman of faBRAlous fits, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trina Trotman.

Hi Trina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My Story: Trina’s Journey to Bra-Fitting Empowerment

As a teenager, I vividly remember my grandmother’s unwavering belief in the power of a good bra. No matter your shape or size, she’d say, “If you’re not wearing the right bra, it looks like your breasts are going to bed!” That phrase stuck with me—and shaped the way I saw myself and others.

Embracing My Size

As I grew older, I began to accept and embrace my bra size. But acceptance did not make shopping any easier. Department stores rarely carried my size, and finding someone knowledgeable enough to help was nearly impossible. Eventually, I discovered a bra specialty shop that offered fittings. It was a game-changer—but even then, the options were limited to basic black, beige, and white. I often wondered: How do women who need special sizing feel when all they’re offered are bland, utilitarian bras?

A Wake-Up Call

One day, my husband suggested we take my teenage stepdaughter to get properly fitted. I immediately thought of the bra specialty shop I frequented. But as you can imagine, she wasn’t thrilled about the “ole lady bras” they offered. That moment was eye-opening. It wasn’t just me—there was a whole generation of curvy teens, full busted and full-figured women being underserved.

The Birth of faBRAlous fits

That experience sparked a mission: to create a space where women of all shapes and ages could find pretty, supportive bras—without sacrificing comfort or style. I wanted to offer OPTIONS, not just the basics. And so, faBRAlous fits was born.

Today, the bra shop I once relied on is gone, but faBRAlous fits continues to thrive. For over 20 years, I’ve proudly served customers across Maryland, D.C., and Virginia, offering professional bra fittings and quality merchandise. And through it all, I’ve carried my grandmother’s wisdom with me: “it’s what’s underneath that counts.”

More Than Just a Bra

The right bra doesn’t just improve your appearance—it transforms how you feel. It uplifts your posture, your confidence, and your spirit. Every woman deserves to feel feminine, supported, and fabulous.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a small woman-owned business owner, I have experienced a few obstacles that small bra-fitting boutiques like mine that offer personalized services may have experienced over time such as: 1. educating the public about the misconceptions of bra sizing. Many people think a quick measurement equals a proper fit, not realizing fitting is a process. Also, price perception – quality bras are considered “too expensive,” compared to fast fashion trends. The difference is quality, durability, comfort and fit. 2. Inventory management – carrying enough sizes, styles and colors can be costly. Slow movers create a problem tying up capital. 3. Marketing on a budget is always a challenge when you have to compete with big stores on social media, search engines, etc. 4. Personnel (hiring bra fitters) has been a challenge because of the specialized skill set, comfort level, and confidence needed to provide the personalized bra fitting service.

About Us

At faBRAlous fits, we believe every woman deserves to feel confident, supported, and celebrated—starting with the right bra. Founded by bra-fitting visionary Trina Trotman, our mission is to educate and empower women, especially those in underserved communities, about the importance of wearing a properly-fitted bra.

Trina’s passion for fit and comfort began with her own journey. Realizing how transformative the right bra could be, she set out to help others discover the same confidence and comfort. Her vision gave birth to faBRAlous fits in 2004 as a mobile bra-fitting service serving the DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) areas. Specializing in full-figure and full-busted bras, we offer a wide range of styles—from sassy and stylish to simple and supportive—without compromising on quality or fit.
We don’t just sell bras—we educate. We teach women how to find their true size, why fit matters, and how the right bra can transform posture, comfort, and self-esteem.

The Boutique Experience

In June 2018, Trina expanded her vision by opening the faBRAlous fits Boutique, a brick-and-mortar location dedicated to personalized bra-fitting services. With the support of her husband and a loyal customer base, she created a warm, welcoming space where women can be measured, fitted, and celebrated. While many large retailers are closing their doors, faBRAlous fits stands firm in its commitment to serve the community—especially those often overlooked by mainstream lingerie brands. We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I cherish so many childhood memories, and nearly all of them revolve around spending time with family. At the start of summer vacation, we’d travel to North Carolina to visit my great-grandparents—a tradition that filled my heart year after year. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had them in my life well into my late twenties. My two great-grandmothers lived long, full lives—reaching the ages of 93 and 94. What a blessing to me and my family!
