Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Lam.
Hi Tiffany, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My creative journey started when I was very young. As a kid, I was always drawing, painting, reading, writing and constantly exploring different forms of creativity. But when I moved to the U.S. at 16 to study abroad, those habits kind of faded away a bit. I was too busy focusing on adapting to the new environment, learning the language, understanding the culture, and figuring out who I was in this new space, so creativity took a back seat for a while as I navigated that transition.
When I got to college, my parents suggested a lot of different career paths for me, but I realized that a huge part of who I am has always been tied to the creative field. I couldn’t see myself doing anything else, so I decided to pursue graphic design, even though at the time, I wasn’t entirely sure what it fully involved or what path it would lead me to.
After graduating from college and entering the corporate world, I got exposed to a wide range of design work—social media marketing, digital and print design, brand identity, animation, video editing, and website design. Through that experience, I discovered that I was most drawn to website design, because it’s not just about making things look good. It’s all about understanding the users and their behavior, how they think, what drives their decisions, and what actually moves them to take action. That intersection of creativity and psychology really intrigued me, and I realized that’s where I wanted to focus my career.
At the same time, I started to realize that corporate life wasn’t for me. I often felt boxed in when I work on projects that didn’t truly light me up or reflect what I cared about most. I wanted freedom to choose what I create and who I create it for. So I decided to start my own business, Tila Studio, where I design strategic websites for female entrepreneurs in the wedding industry to help them build sustainable businesses they’re proud of. I’ve always loved everything wedding-related, so this space feels especially inspiring to me, and it’s the perfect alignment between my work as a designer and my personal interests.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I had no prior knowledge when it came to running a business. Everything I knew was in design, so running a business is a completely different ballgame to me.
In corporate, I only had to focus on one area. Now, I’m the one making every decision and handling everything at once. It’s no longer just about design, I’m now managing clients, handling admin, overseeing projects, building social media and content strategies, setting up systems and funnels, working on sales and marketing… everything. Each step reveals a new set of challenges, and it can definitely feel overwhelming at times.
I’m also the type of person who’d rather figure things out on my own than ask for help, so I’ve spent a lot of time learning through trial and error. And since people in my circle are mostly in IT or healthcare, I didn’t have anyone in the design field to turn to. But that could also be a good thing, because it taught a lot about resilience and trusting myself throughout the process, even when results aren’t visible yet. And honestly, I’ve come to really love this part of the journey. When I was in corporate, there were days I’d wake up feeling anxious not knowing what problems might come up or how stressful the day would be. Now, I wake up excited to tackle what’s on my to-do list. You can actually see yourself grow every day when you build something of your own. And because it’s something you truly love, you don’t feel as drained by the work.
There’s a quote I really resonate with: “Happiness isn’t the absence of problems, but the ability to tackle the ones you choose.” I think that reflects my experience perfectly. Even when something doesn’t work, I don’t see it as failure. It’s more like, “Okay, now I know that didn’t work, I can adjust or try something else.”
To a lot of people, this journey can feel overwhelming or frustrating. But I think it feels that way mostly when you’re only chasing the outcome. When you have strong enough whys for the things you’re doing, the excitement and sense of fulfillment will outweigh all the struggles.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I help businesses in the wedding space show up online with websites that truly reflect their value. A lot of creatives are incredibly talented, but their websites don’t always communicate that effectively, so they end up losing a lot of clients to competitors who appear more polished and established, even if the quality of work isn’t necessarily higher. So my role is to bridge that gap, making sure the website can maximize their brand awareness and perception, helping them attract the right clients and get the recognition they deserve in this competitive market.
What really sets me apart is how I approach both the work and the people behind it. I do have a strong foundation in design and strategy from my past experience, so I understand what actually makes a website effective—not just aesthetically, but in how it guides people and drives action. At the same time, I care deeply about how I show up for my clients and the relationships we build throughout the process. I don’t take it lightly when someone trusts me with such an important part of their business. Once we’re working together, my clients have my full care, attention, and commitment. I don’t cut corners or do things halfway, because to me, trust is everything. If you trust me with your business, I’ll do it justice.
In terms of offerings, I provide different levels of support depending on where each business is in their journey. For those looking for a fully customized and strategic experience, I offer custom website design where we dive deep into their brand, audience, competitors, and overall positioning. For those who need something more efficient, I offer a “website in a week” option where we’ll start and launch the new site in just 5 days. And for business owners who prefer a more hands-on approach, I also offer website templates that allow them to plug in their own content and launch in no time.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I like to work hard in silence and keep my process private so I won’t be affected by outside noise. I also have this belief that if I share good news too soon, I might jinx it, so I tend to keep my work to myself. Even my husband doesn’t fully know everything I’m working on at times. I’m also deeply intuitive and feel things intensely, so I can get emotional pretty easily. Sometimes that might come across as fragile. But when it comes to my goals and career, I’m pretty ambitious and very determined. Once I’ve decided on something, I don’t second-guess myself. I believe everything is figureoutable, and I’ll always put in the work to figure it out. Quitting is not in my vocabulary.
