Hi Tanika “Niik”, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my LLC during Covid,which was a challenging time for most of us. Even though I was employed I needed more income so I started selling sunglasses and accessories that entire year. With that experience I decided to switch gears and created a hair care line. I was having trouble finding products for my locs anyways so why not . I did some research to find what would work best. Most hair oils, shampoos ,and loc gels didn’t work for me. After having several conversations with my friends and family, I noticed they were having the same issue. Created some samples and started using each product on my own hair to see what works and what doesn’t.

May 2024, I decided to launch UrstrulyNiik. That same week I had the opportunity to display my products at a pop up shop. This gave me the confidence to go out there and do more. My goal is to expand my hair care line with other products. I have two daughters who are my main supporters and my motivation to keep going.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course,I mentally prepared myself for any mishaps or negativity. Some people will love it and some won’t which is ok. I did have some people doubting me or had some negative comments.

We’ve been impressed with UrstrulyNiik, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I sell Hair growth oil, Edge control and Loc gel. The hair growth oils are the most popular item. Starter Locs and loc retwists are the services I provide, especially to show that my loc products really work. My brand is for everyone not just my loc baes.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love my city, we have so much talent here. Rappers, event planners, make up artists, chefs, fashion designers and more. A lot of entrepreneurs are in our city.

The crime rate is what I don’t like .
