Exploring Life & Business with Sam Henig of Sam Cuts Baltimore / Hues on Hanover

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Henig.

Hi Sam, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to the city when I started working at The QG downtown as an intern for the one of the classes in the Towson University business entrepreneurship program. It quickly turned into a full-time job and then apprenticeship, where I became a barber and over the next couple years became one of the top guys there.

During the pandemic, I saw an opportunity to work for myself and create a safe and private environment for me and my clients. Kelly, my girlfriend, and myself opened in Vision Fed Hill, a coworking space in august 2020, and were an instant success.

We now have 4 other stylists/barbers working with us and are hoping to expand to bring on more.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
COVID! Navigating the mandates has been challenging. However, it was the pandemic itself that pushed us to open our own location.

As you know, we’re big fans of Sam Cuts Baltimore / Hues on Hanover. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are currently trying to combine forces, but currently, Sam Cuts Baltimore and Hues on Hanover- run by myself and Kelly, are a collective of the best barbers and stylists. We are masters of our crafts and pride ourselves on our professionalism. We strive to be the best in the industry and to treat our team as peers through continually pushing education and by working for ourselves together.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think that mostly, we were lucky to have found the Space in Vision Fed Hill as it was. The guy renting previously was about to end his lease and it gave us the opportunity we needed to do what we’re doing. Timing is everything. And we had good timing and good luck!
