Today we’d like to introduce you to Porsche Chè Sarai Dorsey.

Porsche Chè Sarai Dorsey

Hi Porsche Chè Sarai, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by sharing your background and how you got started in music.
For as long as I could remember music spoke to me a on a level no human ever could. It wasn’t until I got older that I understood, this is just music’s way. I was the kid at Thanksgiving and 4th of July family get-togethers sharing new songs I had written since the last gathering. Other musical family members were always nearby to cheer me on in the moment and encourage me in my craft. Being immersed in the sounds of Toni Braxton, TLC, Michel Jackson, Babyface and the like sparked an early knack for the creation of melodies.

It wasn’t until sometime in middle school that I discovered I could also rap. It started with me bringing new rhymes to school and rapping them in the morning while waiting for the school doors to open. The reaction of my peers spurred me to keep going. Classic lunch table freestyle sessions and battle rapping were a hallmark in high school. Again, it was peers who encouraged me as I often got called out by name to join in on the cypher.

Shortly after the birth of my son at 19, I confessed Christ and began attending church in my early 20’s. At this time, I was unsure what this meant for any chance of a rap career. With a son to raise I put all efforts into developing a career by going to school to earn a B.A. from Hood College and Master of Public Administration from the University of Baltimore, which opened the door for a career as a public servant with the US Dept of Health and Human Services, where I work today. All the while I discovered some faith-based artists who I related with and revived my pen in the process. The extent of my rap career through these quiet years consisted of performing at local faith-based events such as church services, and different community events such as block parties etc.

It was not until 2018 that I released my first ever work, a mixtape titled Prinzess Diary:1 (hosted by DJ Noize the German Mixtape Master), under my artist name, Chè Sarai. Due to the praise received for this project I won Mixtape of the Year and Female Artist of the Year for the 2018 DMV Christian HipHop Awards, and Mixtape of the Year again at It’s Gorgeous Music Awards in Ohio. In 2020, I released a combo EP and book titled the My Jesus Project, for which the crowd favorite single You Can Do IT reached #67 on the Upcoming 100 charts.

This success opened the door for me to tour 2 summers in the Midwest and East Coast, perform during Sunday service on a Carnival cruise ship and in the Bahamas, feature on the cover of local Vital Magazine’s 4th Anniversary Edition, and feature as a guest on a variety of TV, radio and podcast platforms.

I am excited to now be embarking on a new journey in entertainment and encourage everyone to follow my TikTok (@che_sarai) and Youtube (@Chè Sarai) to watch it all unfold first-hand!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth by a long shot; however smooth roads make for a boring drive. I would say the biggest struggle has been my disappointment in dealing with gatekeepers in both the Christian and secular music industries. As a very uncompromising individual I have found it challenging to make significant headway without pressure to compromise some aspect of my character and integrity.

Also, the costs of industry services are crazy expensive. An artist budget needs to be at least $10K to $50K to make any real noise or one must have significant insider connections. At least this has been my experience.

Lastly, I have other interests in serving and teaching that share as a priority in my life.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
While completing my education and keeping the music alive another part of my life which is very meaningful to me has been my love of teaching. It started shortly after high school working as an instructional assistant. Then in church I taught Sunday school and spoke for a plethora of other events, conferences and seminars accumulating to 15+ years of leading and teaching.

During this time, I also invested heavily into my personal development to learn from the best. I engaged in a full year of coaching with the #1 Motivational Speaker in the World, Eric Thomas (ET) The HipHop Preacher, while also studying under the likes of Darrin Gibson (protégé of Bob Proctor – the God father of personal development), and attending many success, mindset, and wealth building mastermind events. In 2022 I completed Jim Kwik’s (#1 Brain Coach) challenge to read a book a week, focusing on personal development classics such as Think and Grow Rich, The 4 Agreements, Atomic Habits, As a Man Thinketh and much more.

Still an avid reader and forever student, I now combine years of teaching and personal development to share fresh insights and practical wisdom with audiences of all ages. However, my heart is to see the next generation overcome present day obstacles.

Some of my signature teachings include Principles of Financial Success, Developing a Success Mindset, and Goal Setting for Results.

Also, something very cool about this personal development journey is that it has opened the door for me to travel pretty extensively both domestic and internationally and allowed me to be in rooms with people who have reached levels of success I dream about lol. I am on quite a ride!

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something people familiar with my brand may not know entirely is that I am a full-blown and unapologetic nerd. For work I serve as a subject matter expert in Data Systems, I have a micro degree in Blockchain management where my team and I are in the thick of developing a blockchain based mobile app., and my ultimate favorite activity is seeing how fast I can complete 1,000 pc jigsaw puzzles.
