Exploring Life & Business with Philicia Wallace of Slaying Self Doubt, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Philicia Wallace.

Hi Philicia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
2017 was my transformational year; I dealt with personal trials, health issues, and professional frustrations. I had this feeling that I was destined for more, but it felt so far out of reach. I became more intentional about my relationship with God, so I started journaling my feelings and thoughts. Through journaling, I started to see that the common denominator in all of my situations was me. Understanding that my situation wouldn’t change, I asked God to “Show me, ME!” I prayed that every day and watched how God had me show up differently in my career, marriage, and other relationships. I started a small group through my church for women who struggled with insecurities and doubt during this time. As I began to serve and lead these women, I noticed even more changes in myself.

By the end of 2017, God had given me the vision to help women push past their doubts and fears and the name Slaying Self Doubt®. In February 2018, while sitting in my office covering for one of my employees, I heard God say, “It’s time to go!” That day changed my life forever. Over the next year and a half, my family and I prepared for the next move, which was for me to leave my job to pursue my purpose. In June 2019, I took a HUGE LEAP of faith and resigned from my career of over 15 years to walk into my God-given purpose. After leaving my 9-5, I put all my energy, time, and soul into Slaying Self Doubt®.

You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
Heck No! It hasn’t been a smooth road because of life! The first struggle was understanding that God gave me the vision, not my husband, which made us pause before taking the first step. Once I left my job, my faith was tested in believing God would do what He said He would do. Then when the pandemic hit, that was life-altering because everything was on pause. But the biggest challenge has been that Slaying Self Doub® is so personal to me because it is me! I still struggle with slaying my self-doubt daily, acknowledging that I deserve the things God has blessed me with and, more importantly, that I am qualified to carry out His assignment. I have to learn how to trust Him completely.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Slaying Self Doubt® is a movement to empower Black women to overcome their doubts, fears, and insecurities to give birth to their God-given purpose. I host the Slaying Self Doubt® podcast, a weekly podcast where I share my journey as a wife, mother, entrepreneur, and woman navigating my slaying self-doubt journey! As your Slaying Self Doubt® Coach, I support Black women in identifying their fears, doubts, and insecurities, acknowledging their pain, and forgiving themselves so they can walk into their God-given purpose. What sets me apart from others is my transparency and understanding that I am on assignment from God. What I am most proud of is that through Slaying Self-Doubt®, Black women are no longer suffering in silence because of the community we are building. I need them to know that I am committed to helping them find their fears and slaying them!

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Yes, first do it! We are not meant to do life alone; we need to find our community. When looking for a mentor specifically, you need evidence that they are doing what you are trying to do. Your mentor needs to be your example; they should be what you are trying to achieve. You want someone willing to give you the tips and resources you need to be successful. Any real mentor knows that when you win, they win. It’s not a competition.

Regarding networking, take your time, do your research, and look before you leap. Getting caught up in trends and the people on social media is easy, but you have to stay true to yourself. Your people are out there; find them!
