Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Jamatte.
Hi Nicholas, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story really starts long before Jamatte Landscaping officially began. Growing up, it was just my mom and me at home, and we handled all the yard work ourselves raking leaves, mulching, edging, pruning, and planting. Even when I was 8 or 9, I was out there beside her every weekend. That’s where I learned the value of hard work and the satisfaction of transforming an outdoor space with your own hands.
By the time I was 13 or 14, I started mowing one neighbor’s lawn and that was the spark that started everything. One yard turned into a few, and before long, I realized I could turn this into something real. At 17, I officially launched Jamatte Landscaping LLC with just myself, an old F-150, and a small set of tools.
Today, at 20 years old, Jamatte has grown into a full-service outdoor company with two F-250s, three trailers, and a strong crew. We now handle landscaping, pressure washing, hardscapes, decks, mulching, sodding, planting, and more, serving both residential and commercial clients. Everything done under the Jamatte name is built around the same principles: quality, consistency, and professionalism.
What makes my journey unique is that I’m also a full-time student at Drexel University, set to graduate this year with a degree in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. I’m in Philadelphia Tuesday through Thursday for classes, then take an early train home every Friday to work hands-on with my team through the weekend. Balancing college and running a company has taught me a lot about leadership, discipline, and time management.
On top of that, I’ve recently begun developing a startup importing coffee from Colombia, a socially driven initiative focused on supporting women coffee growers in Inzá, Cauca. It’s an opportunity to combine business with impact and give back to communities that often go unseen in global supply chains.
Clients are often surprised when someone my age steps out of the truck to discuss multi-thousand-dollar projects but once they see the professionalism, organization, and results, the doubt disappears.
What started as a kid raking leaves with his mom has grown into a business and a mission built on hustle, pride, and purpose.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road but that’s what’s made it worth it. When I first started, I didn’t have funding, connections, or a big team. It was just me, an old truck, and a lot of trial and error. I had to learn everything from pricing and scheduling to client management and equipment maintenance on my own and even self taught many services we provide.
One of the biggest challenges was balancing school and business. Running crews, managing clients, and handling logistics while being a full-time student at Drexel hasn’t been easy. There were times I’d be on my laptop doing classwork between job sites, or taking calls with suppliers right after lectures. But I’ve learned how to stay disciplined and make both worlds work together.
Another challenge was being young in an industry where most business owners are twice my age. Some clients doubted me at first they’d see a 19-year-old step out of the truck and wonder if I could really handle the project. But I’ve found that delivering consistent results and maintaining professionalism earns respect quickly.
Every obstacle has taught me something how to lead better, plan smarter, and keep pushing forward. The road hasn’t been smooth, but it’s built the foundation for everything Jamatte Landscaping is becoming.
We’ve been impressed with Jamatte Landscaping LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Jamatte Landscaping is a full-service outdoor company built on professionalism, reliability, and results. We handle everything from landscaping, lawn maintenance, and planting to pressure washing, hardscapes, decks, sodding, and mulching. Our goal has always been simple to deliver a clean, polished, and consistent look for every property we touch, whether it’s residential or commercial.
What truly sets us apart is our standard of execution. We don’t just “get the job done” we obsess over the details. From the way our crews operate to the final cleanup, we treat every property like it’s our own. That level of pride shows in our work and is the reason so many clients stay with us season after season.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the fact that we’ve built trust and professionalism at a young age. I started this business at 17 with nothing but drive, and now at 20, Jamatte has grown into a brand people recognize for its consistency, communication, and craftsmanship.
We’re also considering expanding through specialized divisions Jamatte Power Washing for residential and commercial exterior cleaning, and Jamatte Demolition & Hauling for junk removal, light demo, and heavy hauling services. The goal is to become a one-stop solution for complete exterior property care.
What I want readers to know is that Jamatte Landscaping is about more than just services it’s about raising the standard in an industry that too often cuts corners. Every project is personal to us, every client matters, and we take pride in representing a new generation of entrepreneurs who believe that doing things the right way will always stand out.
What were you like growing up?
I was born in the Dominican Republic, and that’s a huge part of who I am. I’m incredibly proud of my culture the energy, the warmth, and the beauty of speaking Spanish are all things that have shaped me. My mom made sure I stayed connected to my roots, and I’m so grateful for that.
Growing up, I was involved in just about every activity you could think of soccer, basketball, baseball, karate, swimming, wrestling, snowboarding, and skiing. I could never stick to just one thing, and I think that curiosity and drive to experience everything around me has carried into who I am today.
I also played the violin, and through middle school I played the bass and saxophone. Music gave me patience, focus, and appreciation for detail qualities that now show up in how I approach both business and leadership.
Personality-wise, I’ve always been extremely social and extroverted. In high school, I was the person who bounced between every friend group at lunch. I’ve always loved connecting with people, learning from different perspectives, and building genuine relationships.
All of that my Dominican roots, my mom’s influence, my love for activity and connection has shaped me into someone who’s driven, well-rounded, and always chasing growth in every direction.
