Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
BigSchlim is a food blogger known for his distinct voice, honest reviews, & relatability. Born, and raised in Washington D.C. Big Schlim came to be via an eateries subpar customer service experience. Frustrated at degrading customer treatment he decided to start a food blog that highlighted restaurants service, parking, & later…FOOD!! Schlim has a multifunctional blogging system that includes written, pictorial, & video reviews. His blogs bring about a sense of comfort with his all too familiar voice, accent, & D.C.’s own Go-Go music. Instead of using the formal 1-5 star rating in his reviews, Schlim came up with his own. Ranging from 1 star equating to a “NAH”, & 5 stars equaling a “STAMP”! He became the go to reviewer in the DMV area via his comforting authenticity, consistency, realness, & honesty. Schlim has started to review outside of the DMV area, so look for him coming to your city soon!!
So, I got started via having a bad experience at a pizzeria. I got off of work one day, went to a pizza spot in DC, & customer service was horrible. I decided not to buy anything, & I downloaded Yelp, while in my car, because I also decided to write a negative review about that pizzeria. I did, no more than 2 sentences, & 1 picture. The next day I went to another pizzeria, & it was great customer service, so I decided to go to Yelp & write a positive review. After that, I decided that every eatery I was going to go to, I was writing a review. My sister suggested that I shoot a video alongside of me writing a review…so I did. I knew nothing about posting to social media at that time, & my page was private. I made my page public, & started posting. I went from 25 followers to 500 within a couple weeks!! That began my journey, right before Covid hit.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely been a tough road!! From me not knowing what algorithms were, not knowing how to post on social media, to figuring out, on my own, how to edit my videos. Also finding eateries to go to, having rough customer service experiences, spending tons of money on food, & dedicating a good amount of my time to my brand.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Firstly, you have to LOVE what you do. That love will keep you motivated to be consistent. Rain, sleet, snow, depression, vacations, double shifts…POST!! Don’t stop, continually post!! Also, be yourself, there was no blueprint for me when I started. I allowed myself a safe space, in my reviews, for me to be myself. Lastly, don’t compromise you for money, & an invite to a restaurant. If the food is not good…it’s not good…period!!
