When Kimo Bentley found out that her newborn was diagnosed with the skin condition eczema she had nowhere to turn. The doctors prescribed her daughter a steroid-based cream that had no guarantee of success but did have a guarantee of side effects.
Kimo began to scour the internet and libraries for all-natural remedies that could control her daughter’s eczema without any harmful or long-term effects. She soon developed a soap with all-natural ingredients and used this to wash her baby, and within a short period, her daughter’s skin began to clear up!
Kimo became known around town as the “soap lady” and she would give her soap away for free to people who were going through the same experience with their children. From this all-natural soap, the Kimo Bentley Brand was born.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a small business is always scary and I have found that if you don’t take risks you won’t win in life. I have always been scared of the unknown, but my hunger to be a better person for my community has superseded my fears of failure.
My struggles were mainly not having the resources to point me in the right direction when starting a business, honestly, I did not know what I was doing. Running out of capital was one of the largest struggles along the way,
Learning how to find capital, in my opinion, has to be one the hardest things in small business. Stopping and starting over again has to be the most frustrating thing for me, but giving up was and is never an option.
