Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Ellis.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We started with a sauce I created and named StickySauce in 2014 We put it on wings and the response was explosive. at that time we were doing Farmers Markets and Food Festivals. We then branched out to local businesses for catered Friday lunch specials. We developed a following and started to get contract work which needed us to have a commercial kitchen. We secured the space towards mid-October 2014 we open with all repairs on Small Business Saturday 2014.
We’ve received numerous awards and mentions in various publications include Top 10 New Restaurant our first year, Bet Business for our community work as well as being recognized by The Food Network as the #1 Family Friendly restaurant in Maryland. We are a family restaurant and love what we do and who we do it for.
There are always struggles with regard to starting a business. Ours were mainly financial. We’ve been self-funded since we started. We didn’t get loans or grants, and the process of starting a business, including the nuances of dealing with vendors etc .was a learning process in and of itself. We struggled a lot not paying some creditors until our clients paid us because at this point I was running by business full-time since its inception.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
the fragile unstable economy is definitely a detriment to success. We try to keep our prices reasonable while still maintaining the quality we are known for while incurring the rollercoaster of cost of goods. also, generating new clients in an AI environment
We’ve been impressed with Breaking Bread Nation, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our Signature award winning StickySauce is what made us famous. you can put it on anything and elevate it to the next level. We sell that sauce and cant keep it in stock
We were named #1 Family friendly restaurant in Maryland and Best wings by the Food Network. We have been featured in numerous publications to which we are extremly grateful. We offer a concierge service style catering experience. We are here to answer questions and execute the client’s vision with a experience for your senses.
We offer both on site and off site catering, Cooking classes, meal prep and daily offerings through our cafeteria loxated at 2200 Broening Hgwy.
I think I’m most proud of the reputation we have built with being a go to space that feeds not only your belly but your soul as well.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a shy, lonely kid. I grew up in the military and traveling always being the new kid and occasionally the only child of color made a difficult environment when you are trying to decipher who you really are. The best part of growing up as a military brat was the fact that military base cookouts were phenomenal. You had food made with love from every corner of the globe. I was also blessed that my mom’s family farmed, crabbed, fished and gardened so I was fortunate enough to learn about food and how it can heal you and how to respect the process.
