Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Lanham
Hi Katy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
To keep it short n’ sweet, I have have always been on the go!
My journey has been quite the adventure, with each place I’ve lived shaping who I am today. I was born in Tennessee but my clan of siblings and I were raised in both Florida and Upstate New York. Because of that, I’ve always had a deep appreciation for nature, whether it’s the beach or the trees. My travels took me to Buffalo, NY, I earned my Bachelors in Psychology at a university called SUNY Fredonia. It was there that is where I met my best friend and future business partner, Kelsey Dziedzic. After college, Kelsey’s career took her to Baltimore, MD, and like a true best friend, I soon followed. Living in an eclectic and colorful city like Baltimore has always been a goal of mine, and I’ve found a home in the people I have met here.
Along the way, I managed an Aldo Store, supervised a wedding venue at Corradetti Glass Studio, and traveled extensively with a corporate event planning company to Seattle, Vegas and beyond. Each experience added a new layer to my skill set, leading Kelsey and me to create Day of Duo, a wedding coordination business that perfectly blends our talents.
Today, I proudly call Baltimore home, where I live with my husband, James Lanham, and our Rottweiler, Max. In my few moments of spare time, I love connecting with friends and family, exploring local farmers’ markets, working out in the gym and delving into social media marketing and video editing.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I consider myself incredibly lucky and grateful for the support I’ve had along the way. When I moved to Baltimore, I had Kelsey and my family by my side, and we quickly built a core group of friends who have been with us for over TEN years now. That sense of community has been a huge source of strength. With every wedding we work, we learn a new trick of the trade to avoid possible issues the next time around.
However, like any journey, it hasn’t always been smooth. There have been times where I have dealt with my own mental health struggles and lack of confidence in myself. However, I’ve always been a hard worker, and I believe in the power of Karma—what you put out into the world comes back to you. There were definitely moments of doubt and challenges, but I tried to stay positive and trust that the effort I put in would pay off. The ups and downs have only made me more resilient, and they’ve shaped our business into what it is today.
Whether it’s fixing a piece of DIY decor or if its adjusting a timeline on the fly, I’ve learned to coordinate chaos. OH, and social Media trends, video editing and reel making has all it’s own obstacles! Marketing and content creation is a significant part of running our business, and I’m fortunate to have a partner who’s equally passionate about it. My husband, James Lanham, runs the content creation at Vybe Realty and also runs his own creative design company, JL3 Creative, which has been a great source of inspiration and support.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Day of Duo is a wedding coordination company based in Baltimore, MD, founded by myself and my best friend, Kelsey Dziedzic. What truly sets us apart is our seamless collaboration. We bring together our individual strengths to create a partnership that ensures every detail of your wedding is flawlessly executed. We specialize in week-of and month-of wedding coordination, with a strong focus on personalization. Our goal is to bring the couple’s unique vision to life, highlighting the intricate details that make each wedding extraordinary. Additionally, I offer wedding officiation and Kelsey provides travel planning for honeymooners, so we kind of do it all! Together, we are dedicated to providing a stress-free experience for our clients, allowing them and their loved ones to fully enjoy their special day without worry.
One thing we’re particularly proud of is our ability to support not just the couple, but also their vendors. While vendor coordinators handle on-the-fly decisions, our role as wedding coordinators is to ensure clear communication between all parties. This helps everyone, from the bride and groom to the vendors, feel relaxed and confident that everything is under control.
At Day of Duo, we believe that every wedding should be as unique as the couple getting married, and we’re here to make sure that every aspect of your day reflects that uniqueness. We’ve created signage in multiple languages, moved entire ceremonies to new locations, and
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to breathe and be kind to myself. In this fast-paced industry, it’s easy to get caught up in striving for perfection, but I’ve realized that it’s okay to make mistakes Those moments are often where the biggest growth happens. I’ve learned to laugh, embrace the unexpected, and truly take in the present moment because it all goes by so fast. This mindset has not only made me a better business owner and partner but has also allowed me to enjoy the journey along the way. OH, and don’t overthink what you post on Instagram. Just be you.
