Exploring Life & Business with Katy Daneshvar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Daneshvar.

Hi Katy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started in Paris 🙂

I landed in Charles de Gaulle airport for the very first time on Christmas Eve, 2012, and the sights were so breathtaking that it inspired me to come back to the States and do something–anything!–that allowed me to share this feeling with others.

The city, the sights, the reflection of the Eiffel Tower’s glittering sparkle on a rainy Champs-Elysees. It was nothing short of “magnifique” and that’s the feeling I like to invoke within my clients in their own magical moments.

(It’s also why I gave my company a French name)

Now, we specialize in event design, weddings and themed events. From Visa’s annual holiday party (Past themes include Winter Wonderland, Masquerade Ball and Great Gatsby) to a fabulous yacht wedding, we enjoy each and every opportunity to meet the locals, hear their stories and see how we can make their visions come to life. Clients love coming into our shop and seeing the fun decor options we have such as our life-size Knights in Shining Armor or vintage Moroccan nights trinkets. All of our work is done in-house, so Friday night passerbys often get a glimpse of creation in action!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Covid-19 really brought wedding world to a screeching halt. With large gatherings being strictly limited, we dealt with a lot of postponements and cancellations of beautifully-planned events that could no longer take place. The cost of doing business suddenly increased at the same time with businesses scrambling to compensate for lost revenues.

The flip side is, couples learned to embrace more meaningful and intimate ceremonies. And others fell in love! There’s nothing like a pandemic to bring people together and nudge them into a lifelong union. We also got to decorate people’s driveways and backyards, which my creative side is thankful for.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in event design, weddings and custom floral in the metro DC area.

From our showroom in Bethesda, MD, we service the community in both private and philanthropic platforms; something that has always mattered to me. As a female-owned business from a very medical family, I sought to “marry” my love of entrepreneurship with the spirit of service. We have done entire weddings, free of charge. Our charity work landed us on live television shows while previous events led to national magazine spreads and we continue to seek new opportunities to give back.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My dad, Dr. Yousef Daneshvar. Working at his bustling cardiology clinic during college taught me the basics of hard work, excellent customer service and uncompromising quality. He would sit with patients for an hour if they needed; a sheer luxury in this field and time. His teaching to aim high in life drove me to pursue post-graduate studies at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University and start a private practice of my own—that of exemplary service and good, old-fashioned humanity.

I’d also like to credit my beautiful friend, Ms. Hedieh Roshan Ghaffarian. As chief floral designer at the White House, she showed me that dedication and perseverance can take you to the highest of places—and with utmost style and grace. Like me, she started her business from scratch and took it as far as it could go; a self-made rock star by any definition! You will often find her to be the last to leave work and the first to get there; beautifying every nook and cranny to perfection. I admire her endlessly and am proud to call her my friend.
