Hi Kara , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The idea for Best Face Forward was born in 2010, I was planning a wedding with the help of my mom Susie, and we were searching for a one-stop, experienced and credible makeup and hair team that could meet our needs for all ages, skin tones and comfort levels for makeup and hair. There was NO such thing! So finally in 2012, we created the solution for the everyday busy modern woman…our award-winning Dream Team! Need skin, makeup, hair, or Men’s Grooming? Large, diverse party? No problem! Our perspective is unique… we were in the same shoes as every modern bride to this day, so we created a stress-free, full-service luxury experience for everyone. Over the last 12 years, we’ve built a 25 person onsite beauty and grooming team that spans the mid- atlantic and has won numerous awards and has been featured in countless publications.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every business owner encounters challenges. For me, it’s been defining my standard and hiring others who met that standard and continuing to grow for them and myself all at the same time. I pride myself in wanting to empower creative people, but bringing so many together from different backgrounds and creating consistency among the team as a whole takes daily work.

Best Face Forward- Skin, Makeup & Hair Artists is a wedding hair and makeup company that provides its services with teams throughout several major markets: a) northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC, b) Hampton Roads, and c) South Texas. We specialize in on-site skin, makeup and hair services for all ethnicities and weddings of all cultures. Our founders are a mother-daughter team who have established an outstanding award-winning group of diverse professionals to serve any size of event, and provide superb service for couples.
Experience
Susie and Kara have been part of the bridal beauty industry since 2011. Susie had 40+ years experience in the skincare and makeup industries, while Kara has more than 20 years of experience. The company’s artists have been recognized by several wedding websites. The artists have also done hair and makeup for Grammy-nominated musicians, heads of states and cabinet officials, TV personalities, and top beauty pageant titleholders.
