Ibukun, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey began with a genuine love for beauty and hair. I’ve always enjoyed changing my hairstyles and experimenting with new looks, which naturally led me to start doing my own hair and eventually, the hair of friends and family. At the time, I didn’t see it as a potential career, but as more people started asking if I was a hairstylist, I realized there was something special there.
I began creating wigs and fell in love with the artistry and transformation that came with it. That passion inspired me to take things to the next level by enrolling in cosmetology school. I wanted to expand my knowledge, not just to perfect my craft, but to better educate my clients about their natural hair and how to keep it healthy even beneath their wigs.
What started as a personal interest has now grown into a business built on passion, education, and the belief that every woman deserves to feel confident and beautiful, inside and out.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. my journey simply started from my love for beauty and doing my own hair. I often struggled with feeling like I wasn’t good enough or ready, constantly chasing perfection.
There were times when I questioned my direction or felt the pressure of balancing consistency, growth, and client satisfaction. Building a brand that truly represents quality while maintaining authenticity took time, patience, and a lot of behind-the-scenes work.
Over time, and with a lot of prayer, I began to understand that this was more than just a skill, it was a calling. Allowing God to direct my path changed everything. Once I stopped striving for perfection and started walking in purpose, doors began to open in ways I could’ve never imagined.
Every challenge, every doubt, and every season of uncertainty helped me grow into the stylist I am today. I now see HD Beauty Lab not just as a business, but as a testimony of what happens when you trust God, put in the work, and allow yourself to be guided by grace.
