Exploring Life & Business with Ebony Tillery of Ebony Beauty Beats & Beauty Created Perfectly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebony Tillery.

Hi Ebony, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Ebony, a woman who fell in love with makeup and pushed myself to practice my craft. After taking on clientele and adding to my makeup collection every day (literally), I decided to live out one of my many dreams of creating my own cosmetic line, Beauty Created Perfectly. I wanted to create a line that would be suitable for all women of all shades! My cosmetic line will include lipsticks, lip liners, lip gloss, and so much more. Beauty Created Perfectly was created as a reminder to myself that even with flaws, I was created perfectly in my own way. It went from a business name as a makeup artist to my entire brand to now include cosmetics. Soon after creating my cosmetic line in 2020, I continued my makeup journey under the name of “Ebony Beauty Beats.”

I started my makeup journey in 2014 with my younger sister being my first client. Over the years, I have taken classes to enhance my artistry and continue to take clients in the DMV area. As I am a traveling makeup artist, I ensure that my clients receive exceptional service in the location of their choice. I truly have enjoyed servicing women of all walks of life. In addition to Ebony Beauty Beats, I have a cosmetic line, Beauty Created Perfectly. Both have allowed my clients to leave with a little bit more glam from either makeup application or from lashes and glosses. In addition to makeup, I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and Master of Science degree in Homeland Security. I am currently a full-time Investigative Analyst. I successfully manage my full-time job, as well as, both of my beauty businesses – Ebony Beauty Beats and Beauty Created Perfectly. I truly enjoy my career path and makeup businesses. I have truly found my passions in life and I have much more in store.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Trying to maintain a full-time job and owning two businesses is far from being easy. I can’t fall short in any aspects of my career or beauty businesses because they all require hard work and patience. In terms of my makeup businesses, the hardest thing has been to constantly find new and innovative ways to market both businesses and find new ways to create eye-catching content and products. In addition to that, with my cosmetic line, the hardest part is handling vendor and shipping mishaps while trying to avoid any issues with my clients receiving exceptional products and fast shipping. With Ebony Beauty Beats, the hardest part is to constantly stay motivated and creative to ensure I am staying up to date on the latest trends, techniques, and products.

We’ve been impressed with Ebony Beauty Beats & Beauty Created Perfectly, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Both of my businesses, Ebony Beauty Beats and Beauty Created Perfectly go hand in hand through the application of makeup and e-commerce of cosmetics. I am truly passionate in ensuring that my clients leave my chair feeling even more beautiful and confident than they did before. With my cosmetics line, Beauty Created Perfectly, I am providing exceptional products that ensure black women can see themselves wearing products that are suitable for all skin tones. As a woman that struggled with confidence growing up, I wanted to ensure that both my beauty businesses constantly provided an unforgettable experience. In addition to providing the cosmetics, I provide customized thank you cards and handwritten thank you notes for every order.

With Ebony Beauty Beats, I specialize in natural and neutral glam makeup looks. I take pride in ensuring that the makeup compliments the natural features of my clients through the use of the right techniques and products suitable for their skin tone and skin type. In addition to the skillset, I travel to clients, which allows my clients to avoid the hustle and bustle of traveling to me in time before an event, brunch date, or photoshoot. I bring more than enough products and tools to achieve whatever look they desire.

I am most proud of my growth within my artistry and I see myself continuing to expand my knowledge in makeup. With Ebony Beauty Beats, I am a makeup artist that provides exceptional customer service, fast response to inquiries, and a positive vibe during makeup application. I have created a website and booking site for an easier process for future and past clients. With having a streamline process, it ensures that clients are able to read policies, pricing, and are provided with a portfolio. I offer traveling makeup services in requested locations and photoshoot locations while providing additional touch-up-related services as well. I listen to my clients’ needs, wants, and dislikes to ensure they feel beautiful after their appointment.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters the most to me is exceptional customer service and transparency. With both, I have been able to maintain positive artist and client relationships. I take pride in providing exceptional customer service because a person may forget what look I completed or what lipgloss they purchased, but they will never forget the service they received. In addition to great customer service, I am very transparent with customers and clients to ensure they are aware of policies, mishaps or delays.
