Today we’d like to introduce you to Delali Agbele.
Hi Delali, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I launched what was then Belle Business Wear—now Belle Distinguée—while pursuing my Master’s in Health Administration at The George Washington University. In our program, we were required to wear suits to class and during hospital rounds, and I constantly struggled to find women’s suits that were both stylish and affordable. After doing market research, I realized many women faced the same challenge. So, I took a step of faith and launched my own women’s suit brand—while nine months pregnant, working full-time, and studying full-time. What began as a personal frustration evolved into a mission to redefine women’s suiting with confidence, elegance, and purpose.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Starting a brand while pregnant and balancing a full-time job and graduate school was a challenge in itself, but the real test came after launch. There were moments of self-doubt, financial strain, and having to learn every part of the business from design to production to marketing, often by trial and error. I’ve faced delays, manufacturer issues, and seasons where sales were slow and I questioned if I should keep going. But each obstacle became a lesson in resilience, faith, and perseverance. Every challenge has shaped me into a more grounded founder and strengthened the “why” behind Belle Distinguée, to create timeless, empowering pieces for women who, like me, are navigating many roles yet still choose to show up with confidence and grace.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something most people don’t know about me is that my background isn’t in fashion at all, it’s in healthcare, clinical research, and project management. I’ve spent years leading data and innovation projects in hospitals and clinical research organizations, which taught me discipline, precision, and how to bring big ideas to life.
