Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Cummings.
Hi Carrie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I never thought I’d be a cruiser. I was the person who said, “I’ll never get on a cruise ship.” That changed in 2009, when I took my first cruise to Alaska with my family. Experiencing that destination from the water completely shifted how I viewed travel, and I’ve been drawn to cruising ever since.
What I love most is the ease—unpacking once while waking up in a new place each day. From that first sailing to the many trips that followed, cruising has given me incredible memories with my family, and it’s what inspired me to help others create their own.
I entered the travel industry in 2019 and founded The World by Cruise to take the stress out of vacation planning. I work with both first-time cruisers and experienced travelers, helping them navigate options, avoid common mistakes, and find the cruise experience that truly fits their style.
I have firsthand experience across a wide range of ocean cruise lines, as well as river cruising, small-ship and yacht-style sailings, luxury voyages, and expedition cruising. Alaska remains especially close to my heart, and I love helping clients experience it by cruise, rail, land—or a combination of all three.
I hold my Elite Cruise Counselor certification through CLIA and am a Certified Travel Associate through The Travel Institute. I also sail several times a year to stay current on ships, itineraries, and onboard experiences, so my clients benefit from real-world insight—not just brochures.
For me, cruising is about more than travel. It’s about creating meaningful experiences and memories that last long after the trip ends. I now cruise with many people who I have met on prior cruises, extending my family along every cruise vacation.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Finding the right cruise isn’t just about selecting a ship or itinerary—it’s about aligning expectations with reality. I guide my clients through what different cruise styles, price points, and experiences truly offer, ensuring there are no surprises and that their vacation meets the level they’re expecting.
Remaining on top of the ever-evolving cruise industry isn’t something I see as a challenge—it’s a responsibility. My clients rely on me for the most current information available, and I take that commitment seriously.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The World by Cruise?
Choosing The World by Cruise means working with an cruise advisor who leads with experience, not sales pitches. As the proud owner, I don’t sell cruises I’ve only read about—I sell what I’ve personally experienced and what I continue to experience year after year. I make it a priority to stay educated directly through cruise suppliers, ship visits, onboard sailings, and ongoing industry training so the guidance I give my clients is current, realistic, and honest.
Just as important, I work closely and personally with every client to understand who they are traveling with, why they’re cruising, and what kind of experience they truly want. That includes vetting expectations early—matching vision, budget, and reality—so there are no surprises later. My role isn’t to push a brand; it’s to find the right fit.
For example, multigenerational families traveling together often do best with Royal Caribbean, thanks to their wide range of accommodations, activities for all ages, and family-friendly onboard design. On the other hand, when clients are planning an Alaska cruise, I frequently recommend Princess Cruises, based on my firsthand experience and years of positive client feedback—particularly when it comes to itineraries, Glacier Bay access, and overall destination focus.
Every recommendation I make is grounded in real-world experience, ongoing education, and proven client outcomes. At The World by Cruise, my goal is simple: to guide my clients to the cruise vacation that truly fits them—so they travel with confidence and return with memories that exceed expectations.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people are surprised to learn that I didn’t start out loving cruises at all. I was actually convinced they weren’t for me. It wasn’t until my first Alaska cruise that my entire perspective on travel changed. Experiencing a destination like that from the water completely shifted how I thought about cruising.
What really stayed with me, though, wasn’t just the ship or the itinerary—it was seeing how differently people experienced the same vacation. That’s something I still love today. Whether it’s first-time cruisers, families reconnecting, or travelers celebrating milestones, helping people discover a style of travel they didn’t realize they’d love is the most rewarding part of what I do.
