Exploring Life & Business with Brittany Phillips of Arrowhead Acupuncture LLC.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Phillips

Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I fell in love with this medicine when I was 17 years old. I was desperately seeking pain relief after being involved in a horrific car accident. After just a few treatments, my acupuncturist helped me to make strides in my healing and got me off my cane. I am forever grateful! I knew that acupuncture was my calling and that I wanted to make a career out of helping people with the same medicine that helped heal me in such a deep way. Eight years later I graduated with my Masters in Acupuncture with a certificate program in animal acupuncture and started my journey of being a business owner and licensed acupuncturist.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The first couple of years of opening any business is tough! Financially, of course but more so in the realm of learning who you are as a person and who you want to be when you are operating under your business name. It forces you to constantly question how you want to run your business, how you want to handle difficult situations, what type of boundaries you need to set, how to create work/life balance, etc. I also had to remind myself often to not compare my business with others in the industry. We all have different ways of practicing and running our businesses and I’ve learned to admire that as opposed to creating self doubt.

As for starting things up, I stayed true to myself. I knew that I wasn’t thrilled about having an active social media presence, going to large events to ‘get my name out there’ or hosting luncheons where I had to get up in front of a room and speak. I knew that I would much prefer one-on-one connections and slowly building my business one conversation, professional service trade and referral at a time. It was a slow start but my business was built almost solely on patient referrals. Im filled with gratitude in saying that I am celebrating 10 years in business this fall and I am looking forward to continuing to serve my community!

We’ve been impressed with Arrowhead Acupuncture LLC. , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
From the beginning I have strived for quality over quantity when it comes to working with my patients. I like to spend time in getting to know them and what they need on a physical, emotional and spiritual level. I am trained in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), Classical Acupuncture, as well as Five Element Acupuncture, which is a beautiful meld of healing the body, mind and spirit. I am trained in helping my patients process unresolved emotions like anger, fear, worry, and grief. I incorporate moxabustion, dry cupping, wet cupping, gua sha, and occasionally zero balancing into treatment to help pain. I also practice animal acupuncture, working with horses, dogs and cats to help them with pain, injuries and age related symptoms. I’m most proud of how diverse my clients are. I love having the flexibility of working with a little bit of everything, no case is ever the same!

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Honestly, my dear friend Dr. Janene Borandi, a fellow acupuncturist and graduate of my class is who helps me be a better practitioner. When I have questions about acupuncture theory or how to run a business, she is my go-to person. She is one of the most successful people that I know, and I strive to be a better professional having her presence in my life. Having a close cohort of fellow entrepreneurs and friends has been the most important resource for me. I have collected an amazing group of various practitioners throughout the years of being in the wellness industry. I value connections and professional relationships over technology. I also stay up to date with modern acupuncture techniques with my membership to Acupuncture Today and follow several successful practitioners on social media for tips and tricks. It’s always inspiring to see different techniques and how other practitioners practice!
