
Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlyn Pulvermiller.
Hi Ashlyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My career story started when I applied for a food and beverage position at a resort in Lake Placid, NY after college. I had previously worked at golf courses so figured Hotels could be the next challenge. I was promoted multiple times and finally became the Director of food and beverage. After 3 years at the resort, I applied to be an AGM at a Hotel and Country Club and was promoted to GM in 8 months. I started assisting other properties as well during this time. My time as GM, I have tried to get brand experience, multi-property experience, and well-rounded food and beverage experience. The opportunity presented itself to open the Marriott Owings Mills Metro Centre, with Crescent Hotels. Presenting my first opportunity to open a hotel. And here I am today!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing about hospitality is smooth but all are part of the job.
We’ve been impressed with Marriott Owings Mills Metro Centre, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a hotel GM, I manage multiple department leaders to include rooms, food and beverage, front desk, and Starbucks. Our goal is satisfaction for our guests and profitability for ownership. I am a very hands-on leader that drives productivity by training my team with the same approach. If you can’t find me, check the kitchen. I gravitate to food and beverage where my career in hotels began. I am passionate about what I do and my team sees that in my everyday operation. I have been told that my passion and involvement set me aside from other GMs. Working for the Marriott Brand is always an honor but this Marriott will be much different. Offering a 4-diamond experience, an independently branded restaurant, and a franchised Starbucks. The architectural and design elements added to the hotel by ownership make it one of a kind. Because of all these points, our hotel offers guests a premium brand, luxury service, and well-thought-out offerings.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Aside from my young children and puppy…. my career is truly my passion. Being there with my team for the sweat, tears, and laughs (more laughs of course), drives me to be successful for them.
