Exploring Life & Business with Ashley Marie Gray of Elle and Emma’s Cake Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Marie Gray.

Hi Ashley Marie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started Elle and Emma’s in 2015 with my sisters because we had a hard time finding beautiful cakes that were also delicious. So we began testing recipes and practicing simple designs to sell to family and friends. When we saw that people loved what we baked, we made it official!

Elle and Emma’s is a phonetic play on all of our names. L for Elle (Lexi), A for and (Amber), M for Emma (Marie).

In 2017 we each began new jobs and had life moments that took us away from the business. The pandemic rolls in during 2020 which presented me the opportunity to re-launch Elle and Emma’s. So now I am the owner and cake artist behind the brand.

The vision of E + E is to create luxe occasion cakes that are consistently decadent and one-of-a-kind. We also provide desserts that are a modern spin on loved classics.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This has not been a smooth road. Life happens and you learn to be agile and move with the ebbs and flows of life and business.

The re-launch has been a blast, but it has also been a challenge because of the pandemic and all of the new ways of thinking and operating that has come with it.

I am also a mom of four boys, 7, 4, and 2 years old twins. Life is crazy and beautiful all at once! The biggest challenge for me is balancing business and boys 🙂

We’ve been impressed with Elle and Emma’s Cake Boutique, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Elle and Emma’s exists to make buttercream dreams come true. We specialize in wedding and occasion cakes that add a luxury flair to life’s special moments.

We use the highest quality ingredients to create the cakes and desserts that locals and customers across the nation have come to love. Many of our clients often say that our cakes are just as delicious as they are beautiful.

I am most proud of the consistency of Elle and Emma’s. From design to decadence, I am passionate about always creating a quality work of art that honors the trust clients put in me for their special life moments.

For customers who are not local, I wanted to share the sweetness, so we ship pound cakes nationwide. It has been a blast to see the unboxing videos customers send once they receive their decadent treat.

Snickerdoodle cake is our top-selling flavor hands down! There is something irresistible about that cinnamon swirl, moist crumb, and cinnamon buttercream. Our top-selling dessert is the Southern Peach Cobbler (nothing like it!). While customers love the perfectly spiced peaches, I always joke and say, “I know yall are really here for that brown sugar cookie crust.”

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Integrity, being consistent, kindness, excellent customer service, and being willing to learn and grow (investing in myself and my business).
