Exploring Life & Business with Ari Chibbaro of Ari Wax Skin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ari Chibbaro.

Hi Ari, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My mom said, “You can get a recipe from anyone, but your own hand is the key”.

I grew up in Bali, Indonesia, and moved to the United States to marry my beloved husband in 2004.

Everything was new for me, including learning how to drive on the right side, navigating the streets & landmarks to stores, doctor’s offices, etc. (before GPS), and translating from my native Indonesian.

The biggest challenges were being away from my large family and transitioning from my successful office management career that I had cultivated since 1990. It was difficult for a formerly independent woman to became dependent on my husband. I lost my ability to independently provide financial support to those less fortunate, especially my preferred beneficiaries of orphans and orphanages.

When I moved here, my husband suggested that I start a career that I like and give myself time to adjust and learn about the U.S. I am very lucky to have a husband who has supported and helped me out from the beginning of my life here. I chose to become an Esthetician because I had the fortunate opportunity to learn about traditional beauty treatments from my mom, who owned a Javanese spa in Bali, Indonesia.

I have worked full-time as a Licensed Esthetician since 2005 and was with several spas in Maryland before opening my own studio in Rockville, MD in 2018. I adopted my mom’s traditional techniques and combined them with modern treatments into my own unique signature style. My customers express appreciation frequently for my unique services and individual attention to their specific needs.

I get this from my mom, who teaches me that “You can get a recipe from anyone, but your own hand is the key”.

I offer full body waxing and customized facials for every skin condition.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The hardest part of my career transition was translating from my native language. My chosen career uses biology & medical terminology that I barely used during my office management career. To get a clear understanding, I had to translate each word.

Once I started my career, rules & regulations were definitely the hardest part. I must stay updated with all the new regulations and work within my professional scope as dictated by my professional liability Insurance. When I opened my own studio, I had to learn from scratch how to obtain the necessary permits and inspections. As a solo owner, I am responsible for all business details and records.

Technology was also a challenge. I developed my website from scratch and created the service menu after many months of lost sleep. Whether I like social media or not, I maintain a constantly updated presence to get attention online from potential customers. For each hour in my studio, I probably spend 2 to 3 hours running and improving all the aspects of the business.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Ari Wax Skin?
Ari Wax Skin is a waxing services and skin treatment studio for men & women in Rockville, Maryland. It is located at 966 Hungerford Drive, Suite 21A, Rockville Maryland 20850. You can contact me by text/call to 240 949 2575.

We offer full-body waxing for men and women (Brazilian area for female only) and customized facial services for men and women according to the client’s skin types, conditions, and needs. I have an online scheduling system; clients can easily communicate with me by text to book their appointment. I will send the form & consent online. Once they return completed documents, I will book them. Client will receive a reminder 48 hours before their appointment and can let me know if they need to cancel or reschedule (at least 24 hours before their appointment time).

I offer a membership program that includes discount prices without the need to sign any agreement for monthly credit card charges. I offer this option because I personally don’t like to see my credit card being charged every month. This program means that clients won’t have extra balances that need to be used before expiration or transfer.

To me, waxing & facials are necessary. I grew up in a spa environment where I started body treatments once I got my first period. Teens everywhere deal with hormonal issues and I am glad that my mom taught me early how to treat my body.

We need to groom & treat ourselves to feel & look good. Relaxation will improve our attitude and give fresh energy for our daily life. We use our body to earn a living; why not treat our body back? Several clients have expressed that my treatments helped them regain confidence and feel presentable in daily life. They share stories about compliments received from family members or colleagues that show how people notice when we take care of our own body. When we interact with others; they will see our face & expression first. Making a good first impression is important in personal and professional settings.

I see each individual who comes to my studio as unique & special. Everyone has different issues and conditions each time. I adjust and customize services depending on these conditions and their needs. I will often downgrade to a lower-priced service if I see that a client doesn’t need the requested costlier service. Honesty is my priority because I love what I do. I touch people’s lives and the income I receive gets paid forward to support those less fortunate, especially my preferred beneficiaries of orphans and orphanages.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
By referral – this is the most important support I receive from my current clients. if their friends & family come & receive my service, as new clients they will receive 15% off facial service and 15% off for Brazilian wax. The referring client will receive 20% off on their next service.

Reviews are also key points to help my business to grow, because we all depend on the internet.
