Exploring Life & Business with Alyssa Kurtz-Price of Miss Lyss Planning

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Kurtz-Price

Hi Alyssa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Family friends who owned a catering business needed help for an upcoming event and I found my first job as a 14 year-old kid. Within a few years, I was running the weddings hosted in our ballroom and I found my calling as a wedding planner. From the get-go, I knew I wanted to take a jack-of-all-trades approach to the career, learning as much as I could from the various aspects that go into planning a wedding. In high school, I interned for the local wedding dress salon, and went to college to study management and marketing.

Upon graduation, I entered the venue side of the business learning a lot. A few years after that and 10+ years of industry experience, I finally launched my own business, Miss Lyss Planning.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For the first five years of my business, I also had a full-time and demanding career in construction and real estate development. I had always been involved in the wedding industry “on the side” eventually working to fulfill the life-long dream of running my wedding business full-time.

It was certainly challenging professionally and personally to balance both careers for that span of time. It was a lot of late nights and long weekends.

One of the most challenging components of working in the wedding industry is the loss of weekends. We book couples a year in advance so when fun, last-minute activities with families or friends come up on weekends, we miss those celebrations while ensuring someone else’s day is flawless.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Miss Lyss Planning empowers couples to celebrate their love story with joy and confidence by providing exceptional organization, meticulous attention to detail, and expert vendor management.

We’re proud to come from within the industry and truly take a roll-our-sleeves up approach to executing a flawless wedding.

Miss Lyss Planning offers full-service planning, partial planning, and event management (or day-of coordination).

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The next generation (Gen Z) is throwing a lot of tradition out the window which is very fun and refreshing. This shift in the industry kicks the door wide open to creativity and experience and there will be no rinse-and-repeat weddings, keeping everyone on their toes.
