Erin Wright shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Erin, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Watching the current Formula One season, playing Visual Novels, and watching 80s/90s TV shows have brought me incredible joy lately. 2025 is a big year for Formula One. From the team changes, regulations, and rivalries, this season is fantastic! The grid has changed significantly, and I’m really hoping for Oscar Piastri to win the WDC! Carlos Sainz, my favorite driver, is also pushing Atlassian Williams Racing in the right direction this year.
This year has been a lot. It helps that I’ve been playing (sim-racing) F124 on my PC, binge-watching Saved By The Bell, and my Steam Deck is the perfect Visual Novel machine!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Erin, I’m 19 years old, and my main job at Silver Canon is marketing.
When I’m not working, I’m playing, reviewing, and livestreaming games. I’m currently super interested in turn-based strategy games and visual novels. Bonus points if a game is both! (Looking at you, Nova Hearts.)
Let me give you some background for the shop:
Silver Canon is a local game store based in the Southwest part of Baltimore, Maryland. We strive to make entertainment affordable and accessible. During our re-launch post-pandemic, we’ve grown an open and accepting community focused on connection and player interaction. Throughout my years here, I’ve turned the store’s community from convenience into a dedicated community filled with wonderful weirdos. We have about 3-4 events a week with consistent turnout, with more in the works, such as Warhammer events, including paint classes and Kill Team.
The shop has also been around for about 5 years, and I’ve contributed to Silver Canon for the past 2.
A majority of our stock is previously loved, which encourages everyone to enjoy the product.
On the newer end of things, Silver Canon is currently working on self-publishing multiple one-shots compatible with Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, exclusive to the shop, written by our own Game Masters.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
The friendship I have with my boss, Jason, has completely shifted my internal image and the way I treat work. To be seen, respected, and valued for not only the work I do, but who I am has changed me for the better. This hasn’t stopped me from trying to achieve “perfection”, but one day, I know I’ll come close.
Jason has helped me exercise my skillset, improving with every project and customer interaction. He’s taught me that mistakes aren’t the end of the world, and collaboration is a necessary component to success.
My mother and sisters, too, throughout my childhood, encouraged me to do my best and learn anytime I could. The only way I was allowed to play video games growing up was if I could read the text on the screen perfectly. Amazingly, this motivated me to read at a college level by the 5th grade. All to play some Final Fantasy 12, Dragon Age, and Skyrim!
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There were many times I nearly gave up. I mean, it’d be easier, right? To work any other job and make way more money than I do now.
The fulfillment and agency I have at Silver Canon are priceless to me. The creative outlet(s) and tools at my disposal feel endless, and I get to learn new things every day. I feel as if this lifestyle (because yes, this line of work is a lifestyle) chose me, and to give up on it would be giving up on myself.
I genuinely cannot imagine myself doing anything else. With the rare exception of racing in motorsports!
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Sustaining an environment where everyone who steps in can have fun being themselves. While we have the foundations and practice now at Silver Canon, I’d love to expand it. There’s infinite room for improvement, and I aspire to be a good role model.
I will forever work to create what I’ve always wanted. You may not even realize it, but a space and community where you can be accepted as you are and encouraged is key to living a full life. Everyone deserves respect, the ability to grow, and the opportunity to enjoy the world around us.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am confident I’m doing what I was born to do. Running a business and marketing/creating come so naturally to me, and fill me with so much joy. The uncertainty and puzzles that accompany this line of work keep me on my toes.
I’ve been advised for a couple of years now to lean fully into college. A good idea that I agree with, but not very useful to me currently. In my current career path, I am learning and mastering skills that will last my entire lifetime, at my own pace. I’m constantly growing and learning here, not to mention the job experience.
I hope to be remembered as someone who was genuine and took pride in their work, while uplifting others along the way.
