Dessmond , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
waking up stretching getting washed up to the music off of google nest. reaching for my phone to respond to messages comments and inquires getting some food in me and either getting my gear ready for the shoots on the day or grabbing some coffee and sun for a full day of editing
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey! Im Dessmond a Baltimore native born and raised in the streets of park heights. My organization is called 27inc Studios. we provide photography and videography services across the United States soon to be international!. We specialize in headshots and portrait photography sessions . We are hosting photowalks/Photo networking events in the Baltimore area these are to help new models and photographers network and gain experience our brand is called “The Photowalk Series”. We started learning from YouTube university and now we are apart of their team! teaching and inspiring new photogs and models across the world.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Bonds between people beak simply because we are unable to let them grow. we see them how we first met them or how we remember them. but each day we become different a more whole version of ourselves. and some Friends, family, and even lovers cannot accept this because of this the phrase “you’ve changed”. gets thrown around as if change is a bad thing. The only way to restore the bonds is to accept the person for who they are as well as who they will be. its easy to only let someone occupy a section of your life but its more full filling if you allow them to grow into so much more especially if your helping them grow and change without forcing it onto them.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
all the time!! being a business owner and an entrepreneur is not for the weak!! your in this day in and day out. your friends your family no one will truly know what your going through unless they are an entrepreneur. it gets hard to explain why you do things that doesn’t make sense to someone with a 9-5. giving up is a part of the process. you can always start again but with more conviction
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
one of the biggest lies is that its not a luxury industry. in all honesty you do not need photos or videos for events, occasions or business. but having them is nice right? when you choose to have something that you don’t need but want its a luxury. photographers and videographers are there to capture moments that are once In a lifetime to be shared and expressed to as many people as possible. There are so many of us that the industry begins to feel less luxurious. creating the option of cheap or less expensive photogs and videographers and expensive ones.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I have a mountain of work on my table. two phrases that I live by are “I don’t have to, I Get to” I don’t have to edit all of these photos and videos I get to be the one to bring these thoughts feelings emotions and intentions to life and that’s a blessing. The next phrase is ” why would I complain about having a full plate when the goal was to eat!” I prayed for this level of opportunities so I can’t complain about what comes with them!
