David Barmer Jr on Life, Lessons & Legacy

David Barmer Jr shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi David, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Who are you learning from right now?
Everyone i can, hearing about peoples daily experiences, how they responded and what they learned even if they’re mundane topics gives me inspiration and perspective

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m David, a photographer and visual artist. My work blends realism with surreal undertones to create imagery that feels both cinematic and deeply personal. What began as a form of self-expression has evolved into a visual language centered on authenticity, storytelling, and atmosphere. I’m currently expanding into creative direction and collaborative projects that help bring others visions to life

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that most shaped how I see myself is the one I have with my family. They’ve always been a constant source of positivity and encouragement in my life. Even during times when I doubted myself or couldn’t see my own potential, they reminded me of my strengths and what I’m capable of. Their support and belief in me have helped me build confidence and a stronger sense of identity. I think the way they see me — with love, patience, and faith — has taught me to see myself in a better light and to keep striving to live up to that version of who they believe I can be.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me that there’s beauty in the struggle. It showed me that growth often comes from the hardest moments. The times when things don’t go as planned or when I’m forced to face challenges head on. Those experiences taught me patience, resilience, and how to appreciate progress instead of perfection. Success feels good, but it doesn’t always teach you who you are the way struggle does.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Creating a non profit or charity organization, I want to consistently be able to not only give back to the less fortunate but create opportunities and a platform for youth who want to get into art.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely. Nothing I do is for praise. I’ve learned that real fulfillment comes from knowing I gave my all, not from being recognized for it. The pride that comes from doing something with integrity and purpose lasts. Even when no one’s watching, I still want my work and effort to reflect my character and values. Giving my best isn’t about proving something to others. It’s about holding myself to a standard I can be proud of.
