Today we’d like to introduce you to Yolanda Clark
Hi Yolanda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2010 I started working as a contractor for Baltimore County Schools as a Parent Support Coordinator. I wanted to host an event for the families in the program for children with developmental disabilities and delays. I wanted to have a fair like event that children could attend in a safe controlled environment, it was called the Fall Festival. I went around to different party planners and asked if they would donate their time to the event by decorating. No one would help. So being the problem solver, I took the next few months to study and research balloon decorations. I started practicing to make balloon arches and balloon columns. That event was such a success that my friends started asking me to decorate their parties. After doing a few parties for my friends I thought that I could make a business with balloon decorating. I came up with what I thought was a catchy cool name Extra POP by Yolanda. Then shortly after that I launched my first ad for Custom Balloon Decorating Services in Maryland. It’s been almost 15 years now and I still love what I do.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Yes, for the most part the road has been pretty smooth for me. I’ve gotten to meet an array of people and have been able to be apart of so many special moments of others. Being in the business as long as I have and now with so many people deciding to become balloon decorators flooding the market, I have been blessed with continued success because of the quality of the work and the continued return of my past clients with their referrals to others.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a balloon artist. I specialize in custom balloon decorations for any events big or small. I make custom arches, columns and centerpieces. I’m most proud of being able to develop long lasting relationships with my clients. I have clients that have been with me from the beginning and knowing they trust me in every way to help make their event special means the world to me.
Any big plans?
Wow, in the future, Extra POP by Yolanda is looking to teach and expand. So many times I have been approached by strangers wanting to know how I do what I do. People are curious to how I can make so many beautiful interesting things out of balloons. So, in the future I want to show others how they can learn the skill of balloon decorating and one day, I’m not sure when but, one day it is my goal of owing my own venue where I can have a space to host special events.
