Today we’d like to introduce you to Tynika Stern

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Tynika Stern, and I am the founder of Thank You, Art. I created the company January of 2025, and formulated in into a LLC in October 2024. I specialize in unique multi-medium abstract and expressionism style of art. The intent of my art is to provoke emotions and internal dialogue centered around feelings. My art permits people to feel a range of emotions from happy, silly, sad, depress, and even anger.

I was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. I always had a natural love for all things creative. Drawing was my first outlet to defeat stress. I never looked at as a means of monetary gain. Art is the purest form of self expression and promotes individuality n the highest form. I lost my way with art by adulting. I joined the military my junior year of college. I became a mother to three beautiful children. Routine and responsibility consume my thinking and way of life.

In 2023, I had a burnout/mental breakdown. Nothing made me happy and I didn’t feel like I was living. I kept thinking to myself what am I missing? There has to be more to life than paying bills and responsibility. I voluntarily went into a mental health hospital. That was the best decision of my life. I made myself sit still and think about myself.

During my stay at the hospital I was introduce to Art Therapy. That is when everything click. The little girl that would sketch in class to escape the teasing from other kids, and painful childhood I had. Art was always my therapy. Now I will never let in go. I have been painting everyday since January 1, 2024. I will never stop regardless if I make money. I sell paintings for a dollar. I have sold paintings for 100.00 dollars. I’m grateful for finding myself again through art.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My mental health has always been my number one obstacle. At one point in my life I didn’t believe in my self-worth, and I attach my purpose to external validation. That way of thinking contribute greatly to chapters of my life filled with depression. This also become a avenue that redirect to my first outlet of stress. When I was in elementary school I was bullied and teased daily. The only way that I could kept myself sane was by drawing. I lived in my head where I can create the safe space I wanted. Creativity and imagination established a moment of release for me. I lost that in adulthood. I rediscovered in through Art therapy, and I have not stop creating sense.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Art has become my vehicle to route my perception of the world. Everyday life interactions allow me to connect my creative energy with visual notions. As the founder and owner of Thank You, Art; I enjoy discovering different mediums. I have fallen deeply in love with texture art, figure art, and abstract expressionism. Texture art permits me to connect with each sense human beings use. Figure art allows me to see human beings at their most vulnerable and neutral state. Abstract Expression gives me the freedom to transfer feelings into vivid colors. My art is the translation of optical attraction and emotion. Each one of my creations have elements of emotional intelligence. Feel, think, wonder, and touch are the emotional end result of each of my artwork. My creative intent is developing artistic concepts that promote peaceful ambience.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
My relationship with risk-taking is discovering the answer to “why not”. I rather live with the experience of it didn’t work it than to always wonder what happen. I believe knowledge and experience is gain through risk taking. Worst case scenario you learn something.
