Today we’d like to introduce you to Toi Goodman.
Hi Toi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always been into fashion. As a young girl, I would cut pictures of items from magazines and sale papers that I desired. I would even draw clothes in a composition notebook. I grew up in a full house in the inner city of Baltimore, so clothes at my disposal wasn’t an option, but when we went shopping, I picked the most unique pieces. I can remember my back-to-school outfit for 5th grade, it was a faux leather skirt set, and some chunky heels, yes! Chunky heels.
The diva was born!
I have always liked unique pieces, prints, patterns, and shoes!
I created MIXTAPEFLY because I had to find a way to turn my passion into profit. I love shopping and I love Fashion and Music… My fashion sense is relatable to my model for life and that’s ” dancing to the beat of my own drum”
Every piece on MIXTAPEFLY is named after a song. Each collection is a mixtape. Alike most music artists, mixtapes are a compilation of the their best work, and therefore my collection models the same.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road; however, it has been more rewarding in ways I couldn’t have imagined. It has forced me to be more social and challenge myself in areas of business I wasn’t versed in. I have had some hiccups but also major wins. I have learned so much about Business.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional by day and wear many hats. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism and a Master’s in Criminal Justice. I am an actress, licensed Cosmetologist, and business owner. I have my hands tied in many professions as I believe in all possibilities of my dreams. I work 7 days a week because I give 40 hours a week to someone’s dream, I have to devote the rest to my own.
What’s next?
My plans for the future are still being written. I do plan to leave corporate and focus solely on my dreams. I hope to pitch some movie and television scripts I have written and hopefully build a fashion empire.
