Daily Inspiration: Meet Tiffany Morris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Morris

Hi Tiffany, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I graduated from Morgan State University in 2021 as a “non-traditional student” with a Bachelor’s degree in nutrition. I went into that program with the hope that I would ultimately pursue a doctorate in physical therapy, however, life is unpredictable and as my graduation date quickly approached, I was faced with the reality that taking that path may not be a feasible option for me. Saddened but not deterred, I started to look into other ways I could utilize my degree and limited experience to place me on a different career path. I began researching other career options and re-wrote my resume more times than I can remember until I landed a job in human resources/recruitment. I tried to seek assistance with my resume but many businesses that offer these services are not very accessible or affordable to the population that needs it the most, including myself. I was seeing career services priced at $300+, which was wildly outside of anything that I could afford at the time. So, I decided to learn about developing resumes to optimize my own and eventually, began helping my friends with theirs as well. As my friends started to get new jobs with increased salaries, I realized that this may be a service that I could offer to my community at a reasonable cost to help in combatting pay inequity.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t believe that there is ever a smooth road to anything worth pursuing. I have certainly had my hiccups and mistakes. When I first started, I was not as organized or as formal in my business as I should have been. I did not take the time to develop processes and that alone has cost me a few opportunities. Having processes and standard protocols in place is essential to any business.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a career advisor, I offer services, such as resume editing, interview prep, LinkedIn optimization, and career strategizing. I am most proud of my clients. One of my main goals in pursuing this business was to show my community how to properly showcase their skills and understand that they do have a broader skillset than they believe. Many people believe that if they have been in the same role or industry for several years, they cannot do anything else but I have convinced several of my clients that that is far from the truth. You can always pivot. I, myself, am proof of that, and now so are several of my clients with career transitions from teaching to IT, healthcare research to data analytics, and food service to executive assistant. There is an unconventional career path to almost anything you want to do. I find that My Resume Bestie is unique in my approach because I treat my clients like a friend (in the most professional way possible of course). I want my clients to feel like they are on FaceTime with their friend who just happens to work in HR and gives them the inside scoop. This is a safe space to ask all of your questions and get a real answers.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was any Christmas morning. Just spending the holiday time with my family, eating great food, playing Christmas music, and, of course, opening presents while my parents did their best to manage the chaos of toy packaging.
