Daily Inspiration: Meet Taylor Simpson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Simpson.

Hi Taylor, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Well starting from my childhood, I have always been a person who enjoys working with my hands, being in nature, and getting dirty. I can Remember early on my grandma bringing in tomatoes from her garden and sitting them on the kitchen windowsill to ripen. After dropping out of college (Morgan State University), I became extremely depressed and I needed Something to occupy my mind space. Not having school or work at the time to use as a distraction, through a dark mental space, I realized that my wellness is an important value of mine. I took It upon myself to immerse in research and go down the rabbit hole of self-educating in herbalism and horticulture. I have Been self-taught in herbalism since 2018. In The past few years, I have attended workshops, grow classes, collected books, taken online courses, and probably have watched over 1000+ hours in YouTube videos. I experimented with different techniques and concoctions and started sharing my journey of trails and errors with my growing YouTube community. I’ve always been resourceful and coming from low-income neighborhoods I’ve seen what lack of resources and food desertion can do to a community. I’ve made it my mission to educate others on how they can be self-sufficient and provide themselves with food security with the tools they have accessible. My motto is do what you can with what you have. Since then, I have Aimed to show others you can grow your own food and medicine without breaking the bank. I am A urban gardener and herbalist. I teach Others how to grow even with little space and resources

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all! It has not been a smooth road by any stretch of the imagination. I’ve come into many issues with my grow journey. Mental health seems to be the reoccurring bump in the road. I’ve noticed that when I am not well, my garden is not well. My garden’s health suffers when I am Not mentally healthy and balanced. My garden has a direct correlation with my own health and I know If my garden is presenting issues then it’s because somewhere there’s an imbalance within me. Sometimes it may be mental, physical, or spiritual. I have Had issues with comparing my growth to other gardeners and curators. Feeling insecure about the lack of resources or the fancy equipment someone else may have access to. That tends to disrupt the consistency I’ve already built within the foundation of my own garden. Then I’d start changing things up and my garden suffers from my impulsivity. My garden has taught me how to be aware of right now. Staying in my lane and not focusing on what anyone else is doing. When I’m in my garden I am at the most peace and it has also shown me the result of consistency and importance of routine. My garden has given me a sense of purpose in repetition and spontaneity.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Firstly, I am an Intuitive Creator. I am A herbalist, garden curator, creative director, and artist.

I am Mostly known for my frugal gardening on YouTube and Instagram however I specialize in indoor Cannabis growing. I am most proud of the growth and consistency I’ve built on my YouTube channel. I started 2 years ago with 0 subscribers and most recently I’ve hit over 300. It may seem like nothing to anyone else but I’m proud of every subscriber I’ve gained. I wasn’t Consistent the whole 2 years but I am Back and better than ever with creating education yet entertaining content for the average novice grower. In a digital world where there’s so much to engage with and see, there’s so many brightly colored pictures and loud videos for us all to consume, I believe What sets me apart from others is my vulnerability and authenticity. I am very transparent about my passion for bringing sovereignty of resources and mental health back to my community. I talk a lot of these topics on my channel and Instagram and this is where I’ve built and attracted community and have been able to collaborate with folks I may Have never met otherwise. I am not a creative artist who fakes the funk. I tell It like it is and I’m am brutally honest. I believe that is what My supporters appreciate that most about me. I bring A fresh new rawness to this simulated internet space we all want to be validated in. We’re all just human and I think A lot of the time we forget that. I believe My creative content and presence reminds us of that fact. Through my storytelling and documentation, I am able to articulate my trials and errors to my community in a digestible format. My style is consumable for older and younger audiences because of my ability to bridge gaps and seek unbiased truth.
