Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Thad
Hi Steven, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been a musical individual! As a kid, my sisters and I would go with our parents to choir rehearsals, and one day, they heard us in our room practicing their songs in a cappella, three-part harmony! The rest was history!
Since then, I’ve sung with my sisters as the billboard-charting group, Trilogy, but the three of us have always understood the importance of developing our own individual artistic voices. That’s exactly what I’ve been doing since 2018, and I’m enjoying every minute of my musical journey! Ater graduating from college, I started recording and releasing a cappella cover songs on SoundCloud, and then I started creating my own beats and ultimately writing my own songs!
I eventually created my “Love, R&B” album which caught the attention of Grammy-nominated producer, Dana Sorey, and together we created the deluxe version of this album that contains live interpretations of the songs I wrote and recorded in my bedroom! I’m currently working on new music with Dana and I can’t WAIT for the world to hear it!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Believing in myself was definitely one of the things I had to proactively be aware of. Because I had been singing with my sisters for so long (and we still do sing together), most people only saw me within the context of the group that we created. However, I always knew that the three of us had something impactful to contribute to the world as individuals, so I let that be my driving force. I learned to tune out all of the noise from people who were just talking to talk, and I focused on my dreams and where I wanted to see myself in the future. That was the best decision I ever made for myself.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a singer/songwriter and also a producer/beatmaker that loves to make music. People have said that they love my harmonies a lot, and I’m always humbled and flattered because I ADORE harmonies so much! It always makes me happy to know that people enjoy the music that I create. Additionally, I love to perform, I grew up leading Praise & Worship in church, so working a crowd is definitely something that I’m familiar with. I also know how much I love seeing my favorite performers do their thing, so if I too can create that same experience for someone else, that means I’m doing my job well.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I love watching interviews on Youtube, especially those centered around black culture. I love The Rap Life Review which is a weekly Apply Music show that talks about all the current events in Hip-Hop and even R&B (shout out to Ebro, Nadeska, and Low Key)! Watching channels like this helps me understand how consumers are responding to music, and I appreciate that perspective. I love watching Youtube Videos about astrophysics, the future of the global economy, etc., and while all of this might seem unrelated to what I do as an artist, these topics are a reflection of life, and life certainly imitates art!
