Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharita Richardson.
Hi Sharita , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always worked with children from babysitting neighbors kids as an early teen, to being a summer camp counselor and now an educator of 15 years. My grandmother always told me I would be a teacher of some sort so I guess her prophecy was fulfilled. Once I got married and started a family, naturally birthdays and celebrations became a part of life. During the pandemic, there were so many life changes that my husband and I worked extra hard to keep as many things the same for our children and that included birthday celebrations, which meant BALLOONS!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Teaching yourself a new skill is often hard but ballooning came easy to me and felt more like fun than work. The struggle was in building a business and gaining the trust of others to do work for them.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a special educator and have been teaching elementary school for 15 years now. I serve many roles in my school building. Currently serving as testing coordinator and science instructional lead teacher/coach as well as afterschool reading tutor. I run my ballooning business on the weekends. I balance family all the while!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I enjoyed school a lot! I participated in gospel choir, cheerleading, student government and was a peer mediator. I come from a large family and just have always enjoyed being around people!
