Today we’d like to introduce you to Shalyce Tyson.
Hi Shalyce, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I consider myself to be a big dreamer with a big heart. I’m also a true ambivert, and would describe my personality as warm and witty. I live in my beloved home state of Maryland with my husband and our 2 amazing children, and we have 2 more on the way as I’m pregnant with twins. Community and celebration have been a huge part of my life since a child. From building friendships and being a part of various organizations and groups to lighting up over special milestones and hearing good news, the joy of building meaningful relationships and doing meaningful work continues to stick with me. Looking back on my youth and young adulthood, it’s no surprise to me that my entrepreneurial pursuits led me to careers in event planning and lifestyle content creation. I’ve been able to merge my love for celebrations and celebrating others as an event planner with my company, Sensational Soirees.
Additionally, as a content creator, I’ve been able to build and empower a growing community of women committed to growth, achieving their goals and glowing from the inside out – better known as a glow getters. Through sharing the behind the scenes of my life, navigating motherhood and business, I continue to find my tribe and we inspire one another.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Any entrepreneur will tell you the road is not easy. I remember first starting Sensational Soirees and what a struggle it was to book clients. Many people quit when faced with those first years of hardship, but I was determined to keep going and refine what wasn’t working. I chose to invest in business coaching and better marketing, and it made such a huge difference in finally being able to attract and retain customers more consistently.
Now, nearly 9 years later, I’m glad I didn’t give up. The same goes with the Shalyce Tyson lifestyle brand – struggles have definitely shown up over the past year and a half. Building a community is not easy, writing blog posts when you doubt if many are reading is not easy, and the list goes on. I’ve learned though that my purpose and passion is far greater than any struggle I face and that my voice matters and is needed.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a lifestyle content creator, who is passionate about cheering on women to grow, achieve goals and glow from the inside out. Through my personal brand, blog and motivational apparel shop, I am creating a space and community for glow getters to feel seen, motivated and celebrated, as they live their lives and pursue their dreams.
The Shalyce Tyson blog curates a variety of content for busy women balancing it all. Popular topics include motherhood, style and beauty, food, business, self-care, must have products and services, and the glow getter lifestyle. The mission of the blog is to share valuable and relatable content, tips, and resources to support other glow getters in their everyday lives.
My motivational apparel shop, Glow Gear, is an extension of my brand that helps women to embody the glow getter mantra daily through comfy and cute t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, and accessories.
I love adding value to my community, while also celebrating them, through virtual events such as my monthly Instagram Live series, Fourth Fridays with Friends, my annual Buy Black Black Friday showcase, and other empowerment events such as Women Celebrating Women.
My passion for celebrating others also shows up through my event planning career, as the owner of Sensational Soirees, an award-winning planning and design company in Maryland.
I am proud of my commitment to caring for myself and others, while pursuing my dreams. I hope this example inspires my children to prioritize wellness and sharing their gifts.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was somewhat of an extrovert amongst family and friends and then an introvert at times too in new environments. My interests were music, as I sung in a few youth choirs and also running track. Thus, most of my weeks were spent at rehearsals and track practice and then singing events and track meets. I also loved spending time with family and friends, and looked forward to any opportunity to do just that.
