Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Lukowski.
Hi Sam , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Not really sure how to even answer this one – but I appreciate the opportunity all the same.
The truth is I’ve worked in ShowBiz since I was 6 years old. 30 odd years later – I still love performing. It’s everything to me.
But I have no money and no Industry connections – and now with A.I. destroying so much everywhere – I had to make the switch to Producing.
I hate it.
But it’s either Produce or give up – and I refuse to give up.
Luckily, I got my Producing Partner, Kali Beatty. And she and I worked together on 4 SAG-Indie ULB Horror Movies for DREAD Studios after COVID – and all without A.I.
And right now, all 4 of those Horror Movies are streaming on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Shudder, and Tubi.
So, after we Wrapped the last Production, Kali asked me: “What Next?”
And I said: “I don’t know.”
And Kali said: “Let’s Produce our own Horror Movies.”
And now – here we are – 3 full-length Copyright Screenplays later and we’re trying to get these things made and Distributed.
We’re trying to create our own little Horror Movie Franchise right here in Baltimore, Maryland.
We’re calling it the DEAD SOUNDS Franchise. And each Movie is a modern adaptation of The Jingle Man legend.
Think SEVEN meets THE RING.
I don’t want say too much here and Spoil it, but you can find the Jingle Man legend online right now – there’s Creepypastas and Short Stories, Podcasts, Fan Art, Found-Footage, Reddit Posts, Content Reviews, and Articles – it’s all already out there. And it’s very Krampus meets Slender Man meets Hellraiser…if you know – you know…
Anyway, we shall see – we’re trying like Hell to give back to the Horror Fans – they’re the ones actually keeping Art Human right now.
And I’m grateful for that.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No.
Nothing worth doing is ever easy.
In fact, it’s been Hell.
But it’s worth it.
And I hope to do it again and again and again.
The biggest problem has always been raising money – that’s never easy.
But the best part has been watching Artists get the chance to do their Job.
Watching them come together and create something for an Audience.
It’s like cooking a big, expensive feast for a giant, hungry Crowd – it’s exhausting but it’s worth more than I can ever hope to explain.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As an Actor, I get to perform. And I love it.
As a Producer, I get to help other people perform – both in front and behind the camera.
To me, the trade off is worth it.
But really, this whole DEAD SOUNDS Production got started after I had gone to several Horror Conventions. I was helping to promote the last 4 Horror Movies we had previously worked on. And I got to hear from a lot of different Horror Fans out there.
And after I got back, I had mentioned to my Producing Partner, Kali, that more than a few Horror Fans kept asking at Panels for original stories about Folklore and True Crime.
So, my Producing Partner, Kali, asked me if I had ever considered writing a True Crime Script about Folk Horror.
I told her: “I hate writing.”
She said: “Suck it up, bitch.”
So, I went home to Maryland and starting looking for public domain Folklore.
And about a month later, I had written her 3 Screenplays.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Depends on how much time I have.
I’m not really an App or Blog or Podcast kinda guy. I prefer the older stuff.
Like if I’m not working, I love going out to the Movie Theater. I loved OBSESSION and BACKROOMS. I was a big fan of IRON LUNG and BARBARIAN too. TALK TO ME and BRING HER BACK were both great. And I’m excited to see the next EVIL DEAD movie as soon as I have the time. I might have to catch it on Streaming though – I don’t know. I absolutely loved the recent remake of NOSFERATU – so, I’m excited for Eggers’ next one, WERWULF. Hell, I wish I was in it!
If I’m home alone, I love re-reading old classics like FRANKENSTEIN and anything by Lovecraft and Edgar Allen Poe. I think old stories like that are my biggest nostalgia kick.
And when I’m driving, I’m blasting Heavy Metal Music like KORN, DEFTONES, LINKIN PARK, SLIPKNOT, and anything with Amy Lee singing in it – EVANESCENCE or otherwise. What can say? Theatre Kids never stop liking the things they like…
