Daily Inspiration: Meet Marcus Copeland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Copeland.

Hi Marcus, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started out about 20 years ago on a health journey when I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. I refused to be placed on medications so I made interventions to my diet and lifestyle mainly through working out. The transformation was so powerful that fitness became part of my identity — and I realized I could use what I learned to help others. About 15 years ago, I began personal training one client at a time. I had nothing but a stepper and a passion for helping people take control of their health. One client turned into two, then five, then ten, and before long I needed a dedicated space. I rented a small 2,000-square-foot studio and started training both personal clients and small groups. Since then, I’ve grown into the facility where I train today and have had the privilege of helping dozens of people across the community. I’ve watched clients lose weight, come off medications, build confidence, and transform their nutrition and habits — all through the training programs I’ve developed. It’s been a long journey, but every step has been worth it. Helping people change their lives is what keeps me going.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not a smooth road for sure! Entrepreneurship in any form, any industry has its own unique challenges. COVID was a major challenge that shut down a lot of businesses at that time. I had to be adaptable and start doing on-line training just to keep. my business alive. Another major struggle recently has been with the government shut downs. As a small business each client makes a huge impact on my income. A lot of my clients are federal workers or business owners with federal contracts so when the government shuts down it directly impacts my clientele. An ongoing struggle for me has been when I first started out I thought I would be training athletes and fitness enthusiast. I quickly found out I was not in that demographic. A lot of my clients are older and just want to live longer healthier lives. I have had to adjust my training style to benefit the clients that I have which means modifications and creative thinking to help them obtain their goals

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a certified Personal Trainer with specializations in program development and sports medicine among others. I am most proud of my discipline, that is what has helped me succeed in life in general. What sets me apart from others is that I excel at anything I do. A fun fact about me – I host a burpee challenge every year with my clients and I do 1000 burpees in an hour. I push my clients to do at least 500 during that hour. This year was our 13 anniversary of it!
